Pizza, Perogies, Cheese & Food!!!

Pizza is very good.  I like when me and my dad go to to Pizza 73 because I rarely go there. My parents usually get the takeout from wherever and I don’t get a choice.  Their chicken wings are very good.

My favorite type of pizza is extra cheese with pepperoni.  I’ve only tried traditional crust pizza but I’ve heard about cheese stuffed crusts.  I love cheese so I would like to try that crust one day.

Perogies are very, very good.  We buy the Walmart Great Value brand.  My dad fries them with butter and I eat them plain.  My favorite type is the cheddar cheese ones with potatoes.

Do you like cheese?  Cheddar cheese from the block is my favourite.  I have also eat cheese slices and Cheese Whiz.  I also like mozzarella cheese.

Some of my favourite foods are cheese, sugar cubes, pizza, donuts, peanut butter, cantaloupe, water melon, pumpkin pie, apples, gingerbread, soda pop, popcorn, chicken, ice cream, pasta, pineapple, Smarties, beef, fish and tacos.

Although it may not seem like I’m a very picky eater, I am.  I’ll only eat foods in a certain way.  For example, I like fish but only if it’s shrimp.  I will only eat tacos if they are in a taco salad.

What are your some of your favorite types of food?  Are you a picky eater?

Choir

This is my first year in choir.  I joined this year because I love singing.  Many of my friends also joined choir.  I think that choir is a place where we can sing and have have fun.

I love choir.  It is so fun!  Last Wednesday was the first choir practice.  We practiced singing Jingle Bell Rock.  On December 23 we get to sing Christmas carols to seniors!   Some people are really excited to meet the seniors.  I know I am too.

If you are in choir we get pizza at the end of the year.  Another fun thing you can do if you are in choir is we sing a little more in our spring concert.

The sad part is that we are going to get a short break from choir after four lessons.  I think our Music teacher will start another choir in the spring for the concert.  I am also going to join that choir.

Are you in choir or not?  Why?
What do you think about choir?
What else would you like choir to have?  Why?

Report Cards

Report cards are coming out this Friday.  I’m excited to get mine because I think I did really well this term.  I’m usually happy to get my report card because I think I’ll get good marks.

My best subjects are Art and Social and I think I will get the highest marks for them.  I think I won’t get that good a mark in Science because it is a harder subject for me.  I usually get good marks in Science but I don’t think I will this term.

My mom does not allow me to see my report card.  She just tells me the marks.  I’m not sure why she won’t let me see it.  What she doesn’t know is that I can access it through Schoolzone.  If she doesn’t let me see it this term, I will secretly go look myself.

My mom will get upset if I get a bad mark.  She will be very disappointed with me and give me a lecture.  This makes me upset also.  But if I do really well, she’ll feel happy and she’ll give me a prize.  We get to go shopping at Bonnie Doon Mall and I get to pick out whatever I want.

How do you feel about report cards?  Do you get good marks?  Do your parents allow you to look at the report card?

Christmas

Christmas is only 32 days away!  People should start shopping because toys are being sold quickly.

I like Christmas because it is nice to decorate sometimes.  Christmas is nice because you get to spend some time with your family.  I like the chocolate oranges and I especially like the eggnog at Christmas time.

Also, I enjoy receiving all sorts of toys.  Usually, I get so many gifts we can’t fit them under the tree.  I’m asking for the Nerf Mastodon this year.  It is a rapid fire Nerf Mega Blaster.  I think there’s a good chance that I will be receiving this toy at Christmas because I got a Nerf Mega last year.

This year we bought a new artificial tree.  We buy a fake tree because it is difficult to take care of a real tree.  We have already decorated our trees with ornaments.  So far, there are no presents under the tree.  Are you going to have a fake tree this year?

On Christmas Eve, my mom lets me open one present early every year!  I always choose the largest gift.  When do you get to open your presents?

Halloween

The reason why I love Halloween is because you can eat all the candy you want! I'm usually not allowed to eat my candy, but I still go for fun. Lots of kids can dress up in whatever funny costume they want only ONE day of the year. Since Halloween was on a Monday it sucked because I had to go to bed right away. But if Halloween was on a Friday, we could stay up eating candy and won’t get a sugar rush!

What were you for Halloween? I was a pumpkin. My brother was a train conductor, but since he didn’t go trick-or-treating, he started to eat all of trick-or-treaters’ candy! Then he got REALLY hyper and started slamming doors everywhere...

I got lots of candy like a Hershey's bar, lots of Smarties, a billion of Wagon Wheels, and I even got HOT CHOCOLATE!

I saw a lot of my friends at Halloween. Did you see a friend? Did you go with one? What is your favourite candy?

Theft of Electronics

Recently in our school, there have been some theft of electronics.  Students' iPhones or iPods or tablets are being taken out of backpacks and either placed elsewhere or gone forever.  Also, there are some students using their electronics inappropriately or at the wrong time, such as lunch time.

As a result, electronics are now being collected daily by the teachers and locked up in the office.  If students need to contact parents or vice versa, they are to use the school telephone.

In the Forest Height Technology Agreement that was signed by each student at the beginning of the year.  It says that students are allowed to bring their electronics as long as they are being used appropriately.  Apparently, we must make changes to this agreement.

What do you think about this issue?  Why do you have this opinion?

I Know What You're Doing This Summer...

With only seven more days of school left, many students are excitedly looking forward to summer holidays.  We will have almost nine weeks of vacation this year!  A lot of the time when asked what kids are going to do over the summer, many answers are "Nothing!"  Surely this is not the case.  Even if you are not going anywhere and just staying at home, you can use phrases such as "relaxing at home," or "enjoying the hot summer sun in my backyard."

I have not yet decided what I'm doing this summer yet.  My husband and I are planning a small trip to Toronto to watch the Blue Jays play baseball as well as to visit Niagara Falls.  We might also take a quick trip to Las Vegas.

I challenge my students to describe their summer plans using words and phrases that are interesting and thought-provoking.  Even if you are just planning on playing video games all day, then describe what the quest is in those video games.  Are you on the hunt for dragons in the Town of Elsengaard?  Maybe you are trying to strike out Josh Donaldson in Baseball 2016.

Track & Field Events

This year the Division 2 students in our school will get the privilege of competing in two track meets this year.  Usually, they only get to compete in one track meet at school.  We have been invited to compete with two other schools at Foote Field.  There are a number of events in which the students need to compete.

Many students (especially those in Grade 4) are excited to participate in these events.  Back in Division 1, their Sports Day was more child-oriented.  They have now graduated to actual track and field skills.

Events include both on the track (running) and on the field (not running).  Here is a list:

• 50 m dash
• 800 m
• slalom
• 80 m hurdles
• high jump
• running long jump
• standing long jump
• sitting ball throw (soccer ball)
• ball throw (softball)
• javelin
• shot put
• hammer throw

Clearly, students have their favourite events as well as events that they hate.  Some students have even surprised themselves with their abilities.

Hopefully, the weather cooperates for both of these track days.  Can't wait!

Talent Show Auditions

This morning there was an advertisement for the upcoming Talent Show which is being held on the afternoon of June 24.  Students have to audition by Friday, June 17 with an act that has the following guidelines:

1.  Acts must not be more than 90 seconds (1.5 minutes),
2.  Singers must sing a capella (no music) or to an instrumental version of the song, and
3.  Dancers must provide their own copy of music.

A poll of the students in Room 14 suggested that almost half of them would be auditioning for the show.  This response is great!  Let's see how many of them decide to actually audition next week.

What skills could be considered talents?  Certainly singing and dancing are talents.  How about acting, reciting poetry or telling jokes as a stand-up comedian?  Would performing magic tricks be a talent?

Another factor to consider when trying to decide if you want to audition or not is remembering that you are performing in front of 200 people.  If you're anything like me, standing up in front of that many people is pretty intimidating.  I would get extremely nervous and forget what I came up on stage to do.  Also, what if people don't like your act?  Is an audience allowed to boo?  Do you think performers notice a difference between polite applause and genuine applause?

There are so many factors to consider when trying to decide whether to audition.  What are your thoughts?

Earth Rangers Presentation

Our students were the captive audience of an Earth Rangers presentation this morning.  This is a conservation organization dedicated to educating children about biodiversity.  It also inspires children to adopt sustainable behaviours and empowering them to become directly involved in protecting animals and their habitats.

There are four animal ambassadors that were presented: Phantom, the pine snake, Linus, the hawk, Leonard the falcon, and Millie the armadillo.

Most of the students were eager to commit to becoming an Earth Ranger.

There were four animals that required protection:

1.  Peregrine Falcon
2. Little Brown Bat
3. Wolverine
4. Cold-Water Coral.

What did you think of the presentation?  Is this organization something that you would be interested in?

Summer

I love summer!  The weather is beautiful in summer.  The sun is shining almost all time and temperature feels like really hot like in the high twenties.

Summer is the best because you can relax go on vacation you can ride on your dirt bike (if you have one). My dad lives in the country so I can ride my dirt bike and my dad has a trailer so we can go camping in summer.

Although summer is great, I really miss school and seeing my friends. Sometimes I get to see my friends in the summer.  I see them in random places such as Walmart.

Do you go camping? Tell me about your camping trip. Do you like going outside and playing? I do.

What do you like about summer? Camping or playing video games (not recommended if I was you).  Do you like fishing?  It is the best thing to do on a camping trip because you don’t have to go to a store to buy food.  If you have ever caught a fish, please tell me.

Art

I love art. Art is my favourite thing in the world.

When I was grade 1, I started doing art like painting and other things. Painting is the only thing I can do when I was grade 1. The years go by and I was in grade 3. I still do painting and drawing of course. Every summer I do painting and sometimes I paint every season. I call it paint the season but the thing is I didn’t paint winter yet.

This year 2016 and I was in grade 5 and 10 years old. My teacher and my class are doing a lot of things other than painting and drawing. But I still keep my old painting and drawings . My class did weaving, negative and positive snowman, totem pole, 3D art and other things.

My favourite art project is making the totem pole and weaving. Those are my favourite art projects in my class. My class is awesome.

Embrace art, love art and art loves you. Remember art is fun. Do you love art? Do you like making things? If you don’t do these things better try them.

Spring Break

Spring break is so much fun.You can do anything you want.  Spring break is fun because you can play and go through trees and climb them.  Also, you can play soccer and eat pancakes with syrup.

Did the Easter bunny come to your house?  The Easter bunny came to my house and left two chocolate bunnies and 18 chocolate eggs.  We did not have a special dinner for Easter though.

Do you believe in the Easter bunny? I do I believe in the Easter bunny. Did you get lots of chocolate from the Easter bunny?  Do you like the idea of the Easter bunny?  I think it’s a good idea and good for people.  What do you think?

My favorite part about spring break is that you can go on bike rides through the warm air.  My cousins came from Calgary to visit me.  My cousin, Xavier, who is three years old is adorable.  He already knows how to talk and if he finds candy, he eats it.  I took my cousins to a park to play.

What do you like about spring break? What did you do over the long weekend?  Do you think we should have spring break?  If you had a whole week to yourself what would you do? Go swimming, go to the park or play with your friends?

Skiing

Earlier this month we went to Snow Valley to ski or snowboard.  This was my third time skiing.

When I went skiing it was awesome because I went to the chair lift letter T instantly. I went on to the big chair lift and it was my first time going on it.  An hour later it was my time to take my lesson.  We were doing something that I couldn't remember the name but we were going on one ski and turning one way and another.

My favorite part about skiing was getting on the chair lift because it’s the biggest one and you can go faster down.

I was doing side to side movement skills for practice and I was doing really well. Then I saw a person doing the wrong thing going forward straight down. I told him to go side to side so he would not get in trouble.  When it was time for lunch, I was eating my peanut butter sandwich. After I decided I would buy an ice cream cone.

What was your favourite part of Ski Day?

Books

I think books rock. Well, it wasn’t always like that.  Books used to be the thing I thought about the least.  Not anymore.  I think that books are good because if you are in a really rough time, books can help you escape.  Well that’s just what my sister told me.  But I didn’t believe her. I thought books were a waste of time.  Until my mom forced me to read a book called Gregor The Overlander. I didn’t really think it was going to be a good book. And I just wasn’t interested that much.

Turns out I was right. I didn’t like it at all. So I decided to read The School for Good And Evil. Until I lost it. Great. But as soon as I came home, I was on the hunt. I looked everywhere! But when I found The 5th Wave, it was like love at first sight!  I took the book and immediately started to read it. Yeah, it might have taken me a couple weeks to read it (or even months) but I wasn’t going to give up on it. It was kind of like a romance and action, I really liked it! (I recommend it to everyone.) When I finished the book I went on to the second one. When I finished that one, I tried to move to the next one.  Turns out, there was no 3rd book. Yet.

But now, I have to wait 3 months for it to come out. So I am looking for a new book to read. Which is harder than it sounds. So far I’ve looked at Waiting For You (which I didn’t finish) and Counting By Sevens (also didn’t finish). The only books I’ve started and actually finished are Born At Midnight and Taken at Dusk which are apart of the same series.  Now, I do believe my sister. And to this day, I still think books are awesome. I feel like you know you like a book when you feel you are inside it! Books are truly the most best and awesome thing that ever happened to me. Do you like books? Have you ever read a book? Have you read any of the books I have?

School

Lots of really interesting things happen in school. There are a lot of things to try.

The reason why school is so important in your life is because if you don’t have an education, then you wouldn’t be able to get a good job and then you wouldn’t make a lot of money. It is also important because if you have kids then they won’t have to suffer in school because you can just teach them what you know about the subject.

Some kids only go to school to see their friends and play at recess. Those types of people sometimes cause drama and make up rumors. Some kids not only go to school to play but they also want to learn. During school some kids don’t like to do work so they make good and bad excuses to get out of them. School allows to show what you can do. Like when you have a test they give you those to see if you actually know really cool subjects that you can learn.

I love school. Even though I’m not good at every subject, it’s still gw the subject and it shows how you can explain the test.

My favourite subjects are Science, Social, and Math because in Science you mix chemicals and in Social you can learn about the past and the history, and in math you can add sums and and figure out answers to problems.

Language Arts includes typing and if you know how to write stories or not. Language Arts is important because it teaches you about where and who the holidays were discovered. It’s also important to know language arts because you can read, spell, and speak several languages.

One of the main subjects you need to know is math because if you want to work anywhere it’s going to include math at one point.

There is a few more subjects that we have not talked about. One of those subjects is Health. Health helps you socialize with other people, talk about being S.O.C.K , if you always have the right utensils out to help you with your work, keeping your body healthy, and the most important, trying your best! Basically you are doing health everyday.

Another subject is Gym. Gym allows you to do many things at the same time. Some of these things are working hard, socializing with your friends, expressing your negative and positive emotions, and keeping your body fit. Let’s discuss the first topic.

Working hard is a very important part of gym. If you don’t try your best in gym then you will never get good grades and you would never want to try Gym because it’s to hard for you. The next topic is socializing with your friends. That’s also important because it gets you into a good mood and you have positive thoughts while you’re playing a sport.

The second last topic is expressing your negative and positive emotions. While you're in Gym you have negative and positive thoughts. You have positive thoughts when you achieve some or you're sure of something. It’s a good thing, but sometimes if you’re too positive, then you can have too much confidence and it can fail you because you’re only focusing on your confidence and you actually have to focus on the subject.

The last topic is keeping your body fit. Thats one of the main things why we have Gym! The reason why we have to keep our body fit is because we don’t want to be fat and chubby. It also exercises your body and gives us energy to use in gym. Another reason is because it gives us strength and a bit of confidence boost to use.

The second last subject is Art! Art is your imagination and other ideas you can piece together. Art gives you a chance to express your feelings. It also gives you the opportunity inspire yourself and inspire others.

The last subject is Music. Music also lets you express your feelings and it helps you calm down.  You can also learn about the different composers that created different pieces of music.

What  are your favourite subjects in school?

Sports

Sports are good for you because they keep you healthy and fit.  When you play sports you are actually exercising.  Soccer helps you exercise with your legs.  Football helps you exercise with your arm.  Basketball helps you exercise with your leg and arm.  If you are not exercise you will be fat.  Physical activity also helps with you socially and emotionally.

I actually like sports so much because they keep me fit  and healthy and I also like them because they help me exercise.  My favourite sport is badminton because I like it.  I also like to play basketball and soccer.

I also watch sports and play sports and like sports because they teach how to play them better.  I play tennis and I like soccer, basketball, and badminton.

What kinds of sports do you like and why?

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

December 30 was the day I went to go to the movie theater to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I went with my cousin Aden because it was his birthday.

There were characters like Hans Solo and Princess Raia, and last but not least Darth Vader’s son but I don’t know his name.  After the movie we went to McDonald’s and got something to eat.  I got a Big Mac.  Yuum.

Right after that we went to a Star Wars parade at the Mary Finlay Park.  It was so cool!. I saw Darth Vader himself and once again Princess Raia.

The next day we had a whole Star Wars themed day.  My mom and my dad set up everything and my sisters helped as well.  There was Princess Raia toys.  Outside there was Darth Vader with a lightsaber  and it was the color red.  My friend dressed up as Darth Vader and scared me so much!.  Waaa!

He also told me that Hans Solo died and that made me sad again.

Have you seen the movie and what did you think about it?  What kind of movies do you like and why?  What is your favourite movies and why?  Describe your favourite scene or character from a movie.

New Year's Eve

On New Year’s Eve, I went downtown to see the fireworks there.  I was so excited it was going to be 2016 after 12:00 a.m.  There was a huge ice place to skate on but because I didn't know how to skate, there was little chairs there that you could take on the skating rink.  You could sit down on them and someone else could push you.

I went there with my family and my friend Yalda.  We went there at 9:00 p.m.  Me and my friend went there and took turns to sit on the chair and skate.  I saw my other friend from my school, Purple Tacos.  She had skates on. Me and Yalda chased her on the skating rink a lot.

There was a station there where somebody paints your face and there was a long table full of craft supplies and we could make crafts with them.  After two hours the fireworks were about to start and we went to the front.

There was a billion people there and police in case anything went wrong.

We counted down from 10 to 0.  The fireworks went off in the sky!  Bam! Boom!  It was beautiful and wonderful.  It was ten minutes long and I really enjoyed the fireworks.

We didn't bring our car because there is no parking place so we took the bus when we went there.  Now that we're going home we still needed to take the bus.  On the way home, me and my grandpa played all the way home in the bus.

I was sooo tired!  It was 1:00 a.m. and me and my friend had a sleepover that night and now it is 2016!!!!!

Have you ever gone downtown to see the fireworks and was it good?  Who did you go with and why did you go there?  What did you do before the fireworks started?

Any Goals for 2016?

At the beginning of each new year, many people vow to make changes so that they can live better lives.  These changes are often called New Year's resolutions.  A resolution is a decision to do or not to do something.  Some resolutions include being more organized, eating more healthy and exercising more often.  People are always eager and have the best intentions when making resolutions.  Yet, these same people find these challenges so overwhelming that they fail within the first three months.

Personally, I have long decided that making resolutions is not a very useful exercise for me.  Firstly, I have so many things to work on to improve my life that it is too much and I can't focus on one thing.  Secondly, the resolutions I pick are too large to overcome quickly.  Like everyone else, I enjoy the instant gratification and working on these resolutions more often than not takes a very long time.  Lastly, I have made the same resolution numerous times with the same outcome.  Failure.

For this year I have decided to focus on one major goal or lifestyle change.  Over the years, I have accumulated many items in my life.  I like to buy things.  Especially things such as shoes, handbags, books and skincare products.  They just sit there, collecting dust.  I've spent a lot of money on these things and I've decided that rather than buying more, I need to use the stuff that I have and if I'm not using it, then I need to get rid of it.

Think of it this way.  You probably have tons of toys in your house.  Some of them you play with a lot and some of them you probably haven't played with for years.  In fact, I'm willing to bet that you got even more over the Christmas break, causing you to have even more stuff that you don't play with.  Where are those toys that you don't play with?  Collecting dust in your closet?  I encourage you to go through your stuff and either donate or throw away those items.

We live in a society where it is really easy to start accumulating whole piles of stuff.  Why do we need so much stuff?  Try purging some of it.  You'll feel better, I guarantee it.

Do you make New Year's resolutions?  What do you think about them?  What are some of your goals for this year?
