Why do we have to walk in a line? I understand the grade K, 1, 2 because they could wander off but why 3, 4, 5, and 6? I think that’s really not needed, recommended, or appropriate.
When I walk in a line I feel as if I am a five year old. Plus we don’t really do walk in a line too. Okay, if we are behaving in a line then we should move on to not walking in a line. That’s really fair. Plus why lines when there is such more than a boring old line, why not a zigzag or the shape of a C, B and you can keep on going. How do you think?

Well Forest 14, part of the reason we walk in a line at school is to maintain some order. It is convention to walk on the right hand side of a sidewalk or hallway, so that people going in the other direction, if they are walking on the right, they will not run into you. I am willing to bet that if you, as a group walked down the hall quietly and mostly over to the right and you walked instead of running that people would not be on you. However, since today you chose to run out of the school like a herd of buffalo and interrupt the work of the office ladies, you suffered the logical consequence. My best advice is: if you want to bew treated with more consideration that you are older than acting more responsibly would be your best choice.

While I agree that walking down a hallway in a line seems a bit militant, consider that it helps the flow of traffic in a school. Imagine if there were four classes travelling the hallway and students were allowed to walk anywhere they wanted. Huge traffic jams would result.
ReplyDeleteYou'll notice that adults don't need to walk in a line. Usually, adults know correct etiquette of walking along the right side of a hallway and will allow others to pass if necessary.
To echo the Queen of the Forest, if you want the right to walk freely, it must be earned. Running out of the school like "a herd of buffalo" earns you nothing.

I agree poogie bear^^ ,walking in a line sucks,but some people still cant walk , that's why we had to walk around the hall till the end of recess.

I still wonder why we have to walk in a line it's not like we'll crash in the wall or anything.but if we walk like buffalo and annoy the office ladies than we be more quite but i don't know how a line could help.

It is really funny because we just got in trouble for running down the hall. But it is to bad that we had to walk up and down the hallway for 15 minutes. But at the same time I wish we didn't have to walk in a line. I agree that it would be really awesome to walk in a zigzag. And why don't adults don't have to walk in a line.

Walking in a line sucks it would be sweet if we could walk in a zig-zag!! Now i love being a lunch room supervision helper because i did not half to do the walking (not trying to brag or anything)

I think it is better for kids to walk in a line beacuse it is neat and organized. If you don't kids will be EVERYWHERE in the hall! Nobody will be able to walk by.

i know it sucks to walk in a line but there is still some kids in are class that walk worse than grade 2s!!!! sometimes its not fair but until those people can walk its pointless to ask to not walk in a line....... :) my point is proved!

I sort of agree with you, but that is kind of hard to do in this class. we were just caught running in the halls, so I don't think we will be able to walk in the halls without a single file line. Yesterday, because of what happened on Monday, we had to walk up and down the halls all recess.

Well, as much as I agree with you, are class isn't exactly the best when it comes to walking in the halls, I mean we had to do walking lessons for goodness sake, so I think until we can prove it, I think we should walk in a line, even if it does rob us of our dignity, COUGH COUGH THE BIG HAM COUGH COUGH.

i do not agree with you. We should have to because then you dont end up with other teachers students. But at the same time I do agree because it should be only k-3 who walks in a line. Because the get lost alot more easier

I think walking in line is good for people from K-6. If we weren't in line we will just be bumping into people all over the school. I think if grade 4-6 can't walk in a line then that's not good. We had years of pactice we should know how to walk in a line.

Zigzags are awsome! Walking in boring old straight lines does suck. A c or a b would be so much more fun. It is ironic because right after one of the office ladies had a talk with us got us we all got in trouble for a few people runing down the hall. I was eating my lunch!!

I dont cair if we do or not in the first place i think teachers want us to do it so they dont haft to keep us from running into other people for the other side of the hall. but if we are in grd 4,5,6 we shoud be macher anouf to not be walking evary where.

ReplyDeleteI am from rm.15, and I think that we should walk in a line like some people wrote beacause, it is neater. Imagine walking in a zig zag form, kids would have to walk through people or around everybody and that would take forever!If we walked in a line kids can get though as easy as 1.2.3. I mean I think that it shouldn't have to be a perfect line, but something easy and quick for everyone would work.

ReplyDeleteBut I think walking in a line keeps people from running, and walking in a zigzag would be like not walking in any formation at all because no one can stay in their place so it would be no order.
I was told that in Germany kids are allowed to run in the halls so there probably isn't any formation at all
