Taylor Hall

Right now, there is a big controversy going on in my house.  Here is the story:

Taylor Hall got large cut on his face which needed 30-33 stitches.  This was caused because he was not wearing a helmet during a hockey warm-up.  And this is were the fight began.

My Mom thinks because Hall is a professional sports player, he has the responsibility to wear the proper equipment at all times, even during warm-up. That way, less injuries are caused.

But on the other hand, my Dad has a totally different opinion.  He believes that people are strongly over-reacting, because out of 35 000 warm-ups last year, there were only 3 injuries.  Also, he thinks if helmets keep us SO safe, why don’t we wear them in cars, buses and trains?

I want to know what YOU think!

My point has been proven (or HAS it?) ;D

    3. Nuclear Waffles,

I would love to see you write another blog post about a topic you're interested in. If you don't like the current topics, there are ways to voice your opinion so that you are still respecting the blogger. I hope others would do the same for your blog comment if they didn't like the topic.

Maybe you could write about the new cup sizes at Tim Hortons.

    4. If you don't like sports, why bother reading a blog about sports and disrespecting the author? Tables will turn, and I'm sure you won't enjoy it either.

Hiding behind a computer screen does not give someone the right to be rude to others. This is a school blog site...remember your teachers are reading these as well...

  2. I saw a picture of him and he was badly hurt. I think that it was his fault because he was stupid enough to not wear his proper equipment.
Then again it could not be his fault. He could of been hit by another guy and then fell over and got the blade in the face.

  4. I think it would be really cool if everyone wore helmets in cars(: no I take that back. cuase if you want to go to a dance and you had to wear a halmate in the car then take it off after you'r done, our hair would be a total MESS!! and if you were a girl that would be horrable!!!

But really I think Hall deserved it because you always have to be aware when you'r on the ice. you never know if you're gonna fall and crack your head or not! like what Taylor Hall did,he was being stuped and didnt wear a helmet. So he is very lucky that he is alive.

    2. I disagree with you Khajiit, the hair thing TOTALLY matters. But I half agree with Nummy Nummy yum yum, I do think that Taylor Hall was stupid to not wear a helmet, but I don't think anyone really deserves any thing bad.

Also I think that wearing a helmet in the car would be a total mess and would suck. But no matter what we wouldn't have to any way because the car has a protective care so it would not matter.

  5. I agree with your mom and your dad at the same time. I think that Taylor should of worn a helmet because that wouldn't of happened if he did wear a helmet. But on the other hand the person who tried to jump and landed on his face should of just went around him!

    Well SEE YA LATER!!

  6. 30 stiches is alot of stiches. The guy who accidently jumped on him I mean seorously, can't go around a man on the ice. Hall wore his stinken helmet that fight wouldn't happen.

Now about the "safty" crud. They think if you wear the right equipment it still is not all that safe. You have the body checking and crashing in to the walls. Then theres the chance of getting hit in the croch with the puck.

  7. I don't know who Taylor Hall is but that sounds like a bad injury. I don't watch the News, so I don't know how that happened. The worst injury I've had was stepping on a ball and falling on my butt in soccer. So I don't really know what it feels like to have an injury like that.

  8. Taylor Hall just wasn't thinking when he didn't wear his helmet.

But after he cut his face, every one went to get their helmet and put them on. The NHL(National Hockey League) is debating on if players should wear their helmets during the warm-up. The other day, Jason Spezza said that players don't have to wear their helmet in the warm-up. But when he didn't wear it in the warm-up, when he went to go and shoot the puck at the net, it hit the cross-bar and bounced back and hit him in the face. WHAT IRONY.

But I think that players should wear their helmet in the warm-up.

  10. I agree with your dad its not that big of a deal people get injure all the time not to speck about murders. Taylor Hall's injury is nothing compared to the injury that happened in Mexico to this lady in a hotel who got beaten on her face to a coma in an elevator.

  11. My first thought when I saw the replay was "Why wasn't he wearing a helmet?"

I would think that for a franchise player, the Edmonton Oilers would do everything in their power to protect their future. Why would hockey players think that they are immune to injuries just because it's a pre-game skate?

Accidents happen and people get injured. Professional hockey players or their management should know better.

I hope this incident teaches everyone a lesson and helmets become mandatory whenever a player is on the ice.

  12. What a big deal?{kidding} I agree with your mom cause it is their responsibility to be safe and be careful when you do something{this is not recommended for me]. Especially for boys cause they are the ones who get hurt a lot:)

  13. It shows the arrogance & stupidity of professional sports players.

They should always, ALWAYS wear their equipment, to protect from such incidents.

There is no excuse for his lack of responsibility to himself & the children who see him without proper equipment on & think it is ok for them to do as well.

It's fortunate it wasn't a worse injury, but I do not feel sorry for his careless act.

I also realize this has been going on for years in NHL practices, but it's up to each person to be responsible for themselves... Just because your teammates all jump off a bridge at practice does not mean you have to as well.

    1. I agree as well!

When these players choose to warm up without a helmet, they are show-boating. Also, these professional athletes are role-models for up-and-coming young players. Well, I guess he technically did help ensure they'll all be wearing their helmets now, didn't he?...lol.

It's a bad injury, but it definitely could have been much worse. Perhaps this is the wake-up call that these professional athletes need, to remind them that they are skin and bones, just like the rest of us!

    2. I think your Mom and Dad are both right. Let me explain.

I believe that you can not save everyone from every possible injury not even wrapped up in bubble wrap.

BUT That does not mean you shouldn't take advantage of every tool you have to minimize the risk. (To your self and others).

I am actually going to say I am happy that the media made a big deal out of this incident, now everyone is talking safety. So I am sort of happy he did not have a helmet on, so now more people are aware of the risks they are taking when you play a sport, ride your bike etc.

AND I think you should always take the time to protect yourself. You are very important, and not replaceable!

  14. This is a great topic to choose to write about! I play sports, and have whacked my head on the floor, and off of other people many, many times. There wouldn't be many brain cells left if I didn't wear my helmet... even during warm ups. I am sorry to hear that he got hurt, but i agree with your mom that he should wear his protective gear :)

  15. I really have to agree on the helmet crises. I really think they should wear a helmet because in pratice you really never know what will happen. Plus without one your long hair (if you have hair or if do have long hair) it could reallt be annoying like my mom.

Anyways, if the puck in pratice hits you right in the head it is most likly for you to suffer some major cuts and un-friendly stuff. It could also be the end for your role. WATCH OUT FOR FLING PUCKS! SO WEAR A HELMET!
