You Go To Bed at What Time?!?

In Health class we have been working on learning to balance our lifestyle with a mixture of healthy eating, exercise and rest.  This balance allows our bodies to heal and survive sickness and disease.  During a discussion in Circle, I was flabbergasted to learn that many students in our class have late bedtimes.  Times ranged from 7:30 p.m. to well past midnight.  Reasons given for staying up so late were watching television and playing video games.  You guys may not realize it but it's very obvious if you've not had a good rest.  Students come to school tired and cranky and feeling miserable.  As a result, you experience trouble listening, focusing and doing your work.  You may not believe this but adults go through the same thing; we just hide it better.

Sleep is also important for your brain.  It allows it to solve problems, sorts through and stores information and replaces important chemicals.  Not getting enough sleep may affect you when you're working on an assignment that is normally easy but feels really difficult when you can't concentrate because you're tired.

Lastly, getting a good night's rest can affect your growth and immune system.  If you don't get enough sleep you may not grow as well.  Also, your body's defense mechanism, which is like your army to fight against disease may be weakened if you don't get enough rest.  Are you always feeling sick and missing a lot of school?  Could it be that you're not sleeping enough?

Experts say that kids should be getting either 10 or 11 hours of sleep per evening but most usually get 9.5 hours a night.  Let's say that you get up at 7:30 a.m. to get ready for school.  That means you would have to go to bed around 9:00 p.m. in order to allow your body to rest and heal.

Do you think sleep is important and why?  What time do you usually go to bed on school nights and on weekends?  Is it set by your parents or can you decide yourself?  What's the latest time you've ever stayed up and how did you feel the next morning.  Have you ever come to school really tired and couldn't focus?  Explain.

  1. The time that I go to bed is when my parents say I have to go to bed but I actually play on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2. When my parents check if I'm actually asleep, I fake sleep. I go past my bed time and I stay up until I'm tired but sometimes I'm tired until the morning then... I'm OUT like a light.

I love staying up but I know that it can stop your growth the only way to stop it is to SLEEP.

If someone reads this please listen through these steps. One more thing if your parents say bed - go to bed.

I forgot to tell you that I go to bed at 8:54. Describe what time you go to bed.

  2. I usually go to bed at 9:00. But every second weekend I have no bedtime so I do not go to bed at all. At my cousins we do not go to bed we just stay up and play the computer.

I think sleep is very dumb and it is just not fun. Your body gets so bored it falls asleep because you can do nothing.

My latest bed time is nothing. I stayed up all night and I had so little energy.

  3. Well I go to bed at 9:30 pm on school days because I always start to get tired at 8:00 pm. On the weekend I go to bed at 12:40 am. It's not my choice but to be honest with you I would choose that time too.

Once on a school day I went to sleep at 3:00 am that was in grade 4. That day I didn't listen or do my work and got sent to the office. When I get off school I take a little nap, play games, eat dinner, take a car ride and then go to bed again. When I go to bed at 9:30 I fall asleep at ten because some times I cant fall asleep.

  4. I think that sleep is pretty important. I think sleep is important because your body needs rest and if you don't get enough sleep, you will sometimes be grouchy and cranky.

I usually go to bed at 9:40 on a school night. Sometimes later. Last night I went to bed at 10:00. I think I was supposed to go to bed at 9:50 but I got away with staying up until 10:00. I usually go to bed at probably at the latest 11:00 on weekends. I usually go to bed at 10:30 on a weekend. Our teacher thinks that is REALLY late. I don't think so. Those times are set by my mom. I don't know if she thinks that those times are late or not. The latest time I probably stayed up on a school night was about 10:30 I think. The latest time In probably stayed up to on a weekend was about 1:00. The latest time my mom stayed up is probably 5:00. see, I even think that is REALLY late. The morning after the night I stayed up my latest I felt totally fine. I did fine in school that day. I like to stay up late. Not always, but that's because those nights I was really tired. I didn't put really all in caps lock because I wasn't REALLY tired. I did it again.

  5. I think sleep is not important because my brain is very small. But I think my teacher's brain is very BIG. I do not like sleep because I do not want my brain to grow but I think my teacher wants my brain to grow.

My bed time last night was 9:30. But my usually bed time is 9:00. This morning my brother woke me up with his music. The time he woke me up at 5:30. I got so mad and said you have another hour.

Some times I came to school angry. My teacher sometimes gets mad at me because I am cranky. I am going to change my bed time to 8:00.

  6. Going to bed is important because for your brain because when you come to school you can think and maybe you can fall asleep in claas. Yesterday I went to bed at 10:00 o'clock because I had a Christmas consert. I usually go to bed at 8:00 or 9:00 o'clock. I watched a movie or I play a game with my family at like 8:00 or 9:00 that's what we do.

My parents decide when we have to go to bed.

  7. I think sleep is important because our brains are growing every day. Sleep is important because we get more energy to do work in school and to do your work on time. It is important because you can finish your work and you don't have to stay in. Sleep is good because you're not grumpy in the morning and not mad.

On school days I go to bed at 11:00 sometimes its my choice. If it was my choice I would be 12:50, it would be cool. My mom's latest bedtime is 3:00 in the morning.

  9. Sleep is in no way important. No sleep is perfect for a growing person not to grow. The reason I say that is because it takes to long to fall asleep, their is nothing to do and it's not required. I go to bed at 9:39 p.m. which is my choice on school nights and 5:00 a.m. on weekends. I feel like a mummy in the morning. [When do you stay up Big HAM?] That is totally my choice and I'm happy about that. The latest I have ever stayed up is 24 hours in a day and 3|8 of a day. I felt horibal the next day

  12. Yes, sleep is important. If you do not get enough of sleep you will do barely anything and then you will have homework. Sleep is important because you can do problems better. I go to sleep at 8:30 and wake up at 7:00 in the morning. I do not know why My mom makes me go to bed at 8:30. I do know why I wake up at 7:30 it is because I will not be late for school. On the weekends I go to bed at 8:30 and wake up at 7:30 and my parents decide.

The latest time I have been up at 4:50 in the morning. The reason why I stayed up that long is because I was at Loel's birthday party. We were fooling around and we had fun. I felt really tired and was cranky. I fell asleep on the couch and then I was disturbed.

Yes I was but only for one day and I was really tired and I did do well in math and science. It was really hard doing gym.

  13. Sleeping is important because it helps us get all our energy back to be ready for tomorrow. It helps us get rest for 10 hours of sleep than we won't cranky, lazy like me right now.

I go to sleep usually at 9:00 at night. On the weekend I go to sleep at 10:00.

  14. Sleep is important because if you don't go bed at time you're not active that's why sleep is important.

Sometimes I am going to bed at 9.00 pm but my real time is at 7.30. Sometimes I'm focus at school.

  16. I usually go to bed around 9:30-10:30. On the weekends I stay awake until about 11:30-12:00. I like sleep. I like it when sometimes you can control your dreams. Its pretty rare, but when it occurs its epic. You can do anything you want, fly, destroy and have almost indestructible powers. Its very fun to just explode things. All you have to do to get something is think of it, and shpingo you got a million bucks.

I sleep in a giant bunk bed. Its pretty comfortable, but then again nothing is as comfortable as a water bed.

Sorry that this wasn't a long reply but I have to go to the mall

  17. I think sleep is very important. If I don't get enough sleep at night I feel cranky, headachy and generally unhappy. I am very glad that I don't work shift work, because then your body's sleep patterns get confused and it's harder to fall into a deep sleep.

I find that I'm a happier person when I get enough sleep. What about you?
