It's that time of the year again - time for New Year's resolutions. Do you know what a resolution is? Generally speaking, it's a promise that you make to yourself to help improve your life in some way. Many people say they want to exercise and lose weight for the coming year. Other people say they will be more organized or eat more healthy. What ends up happening for a good majority of people is that they figure out that it is really hard to keep up with these resolutions. As a result, they stop working at it.
In the past I have tried to make many resolutions and like a lot of others, figured out it was too difficult and stopped. Two years ago, I said I would spend less money. Well, judging from the amount of stuff that I have discovered while I was moving residences this Christmas, that was a major failure. Where exactly did all that stuff come from? Last year I resolved to drink more water. That worked for a little while and then slowly died a sad little death. Now I sometimes drink water when I'm thirsty. I've heard that by then, it's too late - my body is already dehydrated.
For this year, I've decided not to make any resolutions for 2014. My logic is that if I don't make any resolutions, then I can't fail at them. Do you see where I'm going here? Well, if I'm completely honest with myself, I am committing to trying a couple of things but I'm just not calling them resolutions. For this year I am going to focus on:
1. Enjoying and using what I have, and
2. Enjoying each day as it comes.
Instead of constantly buying new things and wanting the next big thing, I am going to use what I have and stop wanting newer stuff. You may have heard that I have a lot of stuff - well now is the time to use them. Also, instead of worrying about what may happen in the future, I am going to focus on each day and enjoy living in the moment. These seem like attainable things to focus on for 2014.
What have been some things you've resolved to do? What are you going to focus on for 2014?

DeleteI do not like resolutions it is just lying to yourself. And you should not lie to yourself because lying is bad. Yes I have made resolutions but I still do not like it but I am forced to.
ReplyDeleteI made a resolution to try and type faster and it was kind of successful. And another one was doing my math better and that is what I call a fail because I am horrible at it and I am very bad at it
I do not have anything to focus on in 2014 but I might focus on being a better student or being healthy. I will be a better student and work better. I think I will be kind of better at being a good student.

I think that new years resolutions are kind of pointless. Most people say that they are going to do something and they don't even do it. I think new years resolutions are pointless because PEOPLE DON'T EVEN DO THE RESOLUTIONS THAT THEY MAKE!!!! Well, sometimes people do their resolutions.
ReplyDeleteI made up a silly resolution this year. It was that one day this year I would play video games for 10 hours straight. I know that's not going to happen. I am still thinking of a resolution even though it is 2014. I am thinking about not drinking as much soda. I also want to start eating more healthy. Because 2013 wasn't that much of a healthy year. My resolution for this year isn't going that well. I have been sitting in the basement, eating pretzels, Doritos, Sun Chips and Cheetos. I don't think that my resolution is going to go well this year. I will try to do my resolution though.
I also want to focus hard on getting more excercise and getting outside. I think that will go well. I like getting outside and playing in the snow. When there is lots of snow on the driveway and we shovel it, I like to go on the snow pile, jump onto the fence and jumping off the fence. I don't think that doing that is really dangerous. I really like doing that.

Resolutions are bad because some time we cannot follow them. I made a resolution that I clean up my room for all week and I failed because I cannot make it clean.
ReplyDeleteI want to focus on school because it is easy for me.
~Sam
I think new year resolutions are bad because your parents say you're perfict just the way you are. I have never made one new year's resolution in my life.
ReplyDeleteFor 2014, I'm going to go outside more often because I just stay inside almost all winter.
~cheesehead
I think resolutions are good because you can lose weight and exercise and eat healthy.
ReplyDeleteOne of my resolution was to fix my attitude. I think that worked I don't know. This means I have to be nice to my teacher and my friends.
My other resolution is I have to clean my room. That means I have to pick up my clothes and make my bed. That did not work. But I'm still working. I want to focus on math because think that I'm not passing all my tests because I got a B on my report card.
~bubbles
I think that it is a good idea to make a resolution. Resolutions will improve your life.
ReplyDeleteThis year I want to keep my room clean. I will pick up all my toys. I think I will successful at it.
My mom is trying to lose weight. She has trouble doing it.
~xbolivemaster
I think new year resolutions are good because some people promise to do things.
ReplyDeleteMy resolution for 2014 is that I will hang up my clothes and clean my room. I think I'm good at it. I also want to focus on school.
~pretty girl
I think a resolution is good because it makes you a better person. It makes you healthy and it makes you feel good if you did it. If you fail it makes you feel like you're sad so you have to make a resolution that you will keep when someone tells your resolution you are not good at don't do it.
ReplyDeleteI made a resolution to myself that I will clean my room for one week. It was hard but I tried then I finally did it. My Mom gave me a reward to go to West Edmonton Mall. My brother's resolution was clean his room for five days he failed he could not do it so he gave up.
For school I should focus on writing my blog post faster. For I can do it on time before the bell rings for recess.
-candyapple
I think that resolutions are dumb because who wants to work all year at something and then fail. It's bad for your self-esteem which is no good because it makes you depressed and sad which sucks a lot.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to get better at snowboarding and my new dance game The Black Eyed Peas which is awesome because the graphics are awesome and also I get to listen to music while I get a workout.
For twenty fourteen I want to focus on doing my chores when I'm not asked.
~monkeyman
I think resolutions are grate. Because if in life if you promise something to yourself you can promise to someone else.
ReplyDeleteI have a resolution that I am working on since the start of 2014.
It is working out great in 2013 I had a resolution and it was that I had to eat less. And it was successful.
~bobby
Resolutions are lame. While you try and fail continuisly you still try. Even though most people thought they could make it through the year they always fail. It makes no sense why people try! Because you try that makes you fail but there is a 1/1 000 000 chance of success. Try and you fail people.
ReplyDeleteI made a resolution to read more and I finished home reading. But now I read little to no books. Even though I did succeed I gave up afterwards it doesn't mean you should. Giving up was the worst mistake I ever made. It was not that hard to give up reading.
I'm focusing on getting back to being active. Still trying to gain weight because my little sister is 5 and almost as heavy as me. Trying to learn archery and eating healthy.

I do think resolutions are good because they help your life. I think they are good because you make the reslution. They are also good because it cannot be somthing that you cannot do in the time. You can make the resolutions be anything. The resolutions will probably make your grades better. They could make other peoples lives better too.
ReplyDeleteI made a resolution that is to listen to my mom when I go to bed, To clean my room when it needs to be cleaned, to get all As in scool. None of them are sucsessful because I just made them. Except to go to bed when my mom asks me to that one is sucsessful.
I have one for school and it is to speed up on the blog, also to listen in class.

What I think about resolution is that they're good because so you don't forget.
ReplyDeleteSome resolutions that I made is that I well always keep my room clean because my sister always throws stuff on the ground and then I have to get in trouble.
-cat
Resolutions are a good thing for people to focus on. This is what i'm trying to do.
ReplyDelete1.Do better in Social Studies
2.Do better in Math
3.Do better in Art
4.Get a haircut
I try to do these and I always fail at it.
My parents are trying to stop smoking. But they say it helps them get not mad? How is dieing help you not get mad? Right now I'm doing pretty good in school. Getting those straight B.
At the New Years fireworks thing everybody smokes well I cant say what they smoke but I will tell you it's not good.
MrJamHam13
Making promises like drinking water is a good thing to do. It is a good thing because you can get money or get a treat. You don`t get a treat or money sometimes but my Mom promises to get me one.
ReplyDeleteand doing laundry two and chores and cleaning dishes.
~ robloxmaster
I think a resolution is a good idea. Because I promise my teacher to work on my blue sheet this week so I can get better at it so I can think better.
ReplyDelete~smart cookie
I think a resolution is a good idea because you can promise yourself. When you promise yourself it means that you are going to try and do something you said.
ReplyDeleteI have a resolution. It is to eat healthy and not junk food. I want to eat apples, bananas, peaches, not chips, pop, and ice cream. I think I cannot eat junk food for to two years.
~cookie pie
Resolutions are a good idea because they treat people to be nice. And stop people that are smoking and do not treat people bad.
ReplyDeleteI think that I'll promise that I'll clean up my toys and mess that my baby brother does and clean up water that got spilled. And I promise to take care of my baby brother. I do that all year. And play video for 20 miniuets to play or the docter will say you will get needles on your eyes.
My promise that I take care of my brother so that he could not fall down on the floor.
And do not go on the posen.
I did some resolution was cleaning the water on the floor because my baby brother does not let my Mom eat dinner. But when I am done my dinner I play with my baby brother.
In 2014 I focus on being nice and do some good idea that my mom and dad get angry doing bad ideas to my baby brother.
`thehappygamer
I think that resolution mean to me is a good thing to do because it helps your life and helping people and others to do thing they can't do. Some sad things and happy, bad things that happen. Doing things when you're not told and your family, friends. Helping people that don't need help at all but they do.
ReplyDeleteA few years ago I resolved to lose 10 pounds from eating fruits and vegetables. To not eat junk food for two months and to be healthy at all times. Shoveling the sidewalks for my family, to not let my grandma fall into the snow and scrape the ice.
I focus on school that everything I do in school. I want to focus on my math and science that is new in the unit. To focus on my art to practice and social to study.
-Candyman
I do not like resolutions because it hard to do and I really can't do it.
ReplyDeleteI promise that I won't say bad word anymore but I really can't follow the rule and another one I promise my self is listen to my mom and dad. That one I can follow little bit.
This year I am going to focus on listen my mom and dad and helping my mom at kitchin and helping my dad at carrying and watch my baby not to fall at the stair.

I love the New Year and I love thinking about resolutions. It's not really resolutions but I like to stop and spend some time thinking about how I am living my life and if things are going in the direction I want them to. I actually like doing this so much that I do it at the start of each school year as well. I think about what is going well and why I think that and I think about things that are irritating me and what I could do differently. Then I decide if there are a few things I could do a bit differently to make my life more enjoyable. Sometimes the things themselves aren't enjoyable (for me exercising is not something I would do for fun), but having more energy, which is how I feel when I have been exercising consistently, does make life more enjoyable. I think the key to keeping a resolution is to focus on if you do the resolution how the quality of your life is better. I noticed a lot of you have resolutions about keeping your rooms neater. It is hard to get excited about cleaning. But if you focused on how your life would be better if your room was cleaner because:
ReplyDelete-it would be more enjoyable to be in a neat room OR
-it would be quicker to get ready in the morning and so you could stay in bed a bit longer in the morning OR
-your parents would bug you less if your room was clean.
Sometimes looking at the pay off is better than looking at task.
My resolution is to make more time to do creative things, I want to explore my artistic and visual intelligence.
Queen of the Forest.
My resolution is to go on a diet and Sell Lemonade!
ReplyDeletebut really i think i resolve to eat more of the same foods(lasanga, spaghetti etc.).
