On Friday, February 7, 2014, the opening ceremonies of the 22nd Winter Olympics were held in Sochi, Russia. Canada has 221 athletes competing in these games which is the largest contingent ever sent. Also, 100 of those athletes are women, another record.
The Canadians looked classy in their Olympics gear, which was provided by the Hudson's Bay Company. Our red, white and black colours really stood out. Additionally, the ever present red mittens really showed off the maple leaf.
I love it whenever the Olympics come around. There is something about having people set aside their differences and all cheer for one cause: medals for our athletes. It doesn't matter what your background is, what religion you believe in or what political party you support. When the Olympics are on we are Canadians. Fortunately, we've had a chance to celebrate seven medals to date - three gold, three silver and one bronze.
My favourite events to watch are figure skating and short track speed skating. I like figure skating because of the challenge and danger of the jumps. Short track speed skating is very fast and competitive and has an element of danger that makes it fun to watch.
What are your thoughts on the Olympics? What sports do you like to watch in the Winter Olympics? If you could compete in the Winter Olympics, what sport would it be and why?

I think the Olympic games are really cool because I like seeing the people compete in the games.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite sport is Snowboarding. The person that won was Mark McMorries. But everyone was soo good. I would compete in Bobsleigh because I would like all of the speed. It would be so cool. I would like to compete in the one man Bobsleigh.

I love the Olympics, well the summer Olympics. It seems like fun I really like sword fighting (fencing) and lacrosse. I also like swimming. If i was in the Olympics I would try my best. It would be an honor to be in the Olyimpics and to carry the torch.
ReplyDeleteI know how they start the Olyimpics they stand on this iron bench with 13 seets and..... they wave at everyone. OH I forgot that my dad was almost in the Olympics. Wait that was my auntie Jeanie. She was in gymnastics but when they called her she practiced one more time they kicked her out of gymnastics.
What do you like about the summer or winter Olympics? Describe which sport you like?
~Matt hatter
I really like the winter Olympics because it is a lot more competitive. In summer the Olympics are not as competitive.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite sport for the Olympics is bobsledding. It looks so fun. Hockey is also another sport I would compete in. They should have a platinum medal for the Olympics. They are so many fun sports in the Olympics.

What I think about Olympics in the winter is that I think that it would be really scary because it looks like that you can fall over. It looks really fast and it looks like when you come around a corner it looks like you're going to crash into the wall and that will hurt.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite sport in the Olympics would be a bobsled but not really because it looks scary and I would not want to try it.

I think that the Olympics are very awesome. I think that the Olympics are awesome because there are some sports that are very dangerous and they are very fun to watch. The summer Olympics are also very fun to watch. The Olympics are very entertaining.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite sport in the winter Olympics is Skeleton. I like it because it is very dangerous and people travel at extreme speeds on a tiny sled going down head first down a huge sheet of pure ice. My favourite sport in the summer Olympics is probably beach volleyball. I like beach volleyball because you can really hurt your wrists playing beach volleyball.
I would like to be in the winter Olympics because it would be fun. What sport? I would like to do luge. I would like to do luge because it is very dangerous (I do not want to kill myself though) and because you would go very fast.

I love Winter Olympics because you could win a medal and you could go in Sochi in Russia or Vancover, Canada. And the people who are the strongest go to the Winter Olympics or summer Olympics.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite sports is two Winter Olympics hockey and luge. In hockey you can shoot goals. In luge you go so fast and you lay and you go fast and I want to go backwards and the BIG HAM said when you lay you can not see. Really, its easy I can see when I lay.
I want to compete in the Winter Olympics in hockey. I want to win a Winter Olympices cup. I want to be Sidney Crosby. He is best guy in Hockey. I wish I was the best guy who wins 30 cups

I do not have any thoughts on the Olympics for summer. I do not have any thoughts on any people that do not play hockey. The Olympics do not really have that much fun in it. The hockey players are cool.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite sport is hockey. The reason why is because they are really fast and they get goals and sometimes fight. Another reason is because they will zoom across the rink. They will sometimes win and it could be a tie.
If I would be in the Olympics I would be in hockey. The reason why is because I would be Wayne Gretskey. The reason why I would be him is because he is awesome. Another reason why is because he got many goals and he is well known.

I love watching the Olympics! It's hard for me to choose whether I like the summer or winter Olympics better, because I like sports from both seasons. My favourite winter Olympic sports are curling, luge, speed skating, and downhill skiing. I also enjoy watching swimming, gymnastics and volleyball in the summer Olympics.
ReplyDeleteI can't decide if I would rather compete as a curler or as a luger - they both look really fun.
