This morning there was an advertisement for the upcoming Talent Show which is being held on the afternoon of June 24. Students have to audition by Friday, June 17 with an act that has the following guidelines:
1. Acts must not be more than 90 seconds (1.5 minutes),
2. Singers must sing a capella (no music) or to an instrumental version of the song, and
3. Dancers must provide their own copy of music.
A poll of the students in Room 14 suggested that almost half of them would be auditioning for the show. This response is great! Let's see how many of them decide to actually audition next week.
What skills could be considered talents? Certainly singing and dancing are talents. How about acting, reciting poetry or telling jokes as a stand-up comedian? Would performing magic tricks be a talent?
Another factor to consider when trying to decide if you want to audition or not is remembering that you are performing in front of 200 people. If you're anything like me, standing up in front of that many people is pretty intimidating. I would get extremely nervous and forget what I came up on stage to do. Also, what if people don't like your act? Is an audience allowed to boo? Do you think performers notice a difference between polite applause and genuine applause?
There are so many factors to consider when trying to decide whether to audition. What are your thoughts?

I would LOVE to play on the piano at the stage because I played on the piano 6 years and now I am 10. I think music is one of the best things ever!!! I have a three page song to play. It is called Sonatina in G major number 3.
ReplyDeleteI am very good at art so that I can make my parents happy about it. As we know I love music. Now I am playing Play it Again, Pink Panther, The Clown and the last song is Changing Bars, that song is lovely. I am also good at gymnastics. I go to Russian school.
People should not boo because you might think you are really good at it and somebody is booing. I like this policy.

Yes! I am considering to enter the talent show because I think its a great way to show off what you can do. That you never show to other people. I know for one fact that I am all right at dancing. But people say that I cant even dance the robot. But I don´t believe my mom when she said this but she said my singing is BEAUTIFUL. Horrible word. Ack! I don´t even want to say that ugly word.
ReplyDeleteThe reason why children in elementary school are not allowed to boo is because it might hurt the person who is performing´s feelings because they thought that they were good.

I am not considering auditioning for the talent show this year because I wanted to know what it felt like so I went on last year but it is not that big of a deal.
ReplyDeleteI think my talent is singing. Yes I am good. I sung in the talent show last year.
I am not quite sure why we are not allowed to boo and I do not agree with the whole booing rule.
~purpletacos
No I am not considering auditioning for the talent show this year because I don`t want to.
ReplyDeleteI can sing. I am good at it.
I think kids are not allowed to boo because they will not feel good about their work. I agree with the policy.

No I'm not auditioning for the Talent Show because I don't have a Talent that I know of.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I have a talent.
I like that students are not allowed to boo because it is not nice.
~thing 1
No, I am not considering doing the talent show because I HATE being on stage when 250 people are watching me doing a silly talent.
ReplyDeleteI have a few talents I am happy to have but I don't like showing them off to other people. I am REALLY good with computers, eating, being loud, playing soccer, and slurping slurpees!
Audineces in Elemetery aren't allowed to say boo because they think if the act was really bad, the kid could forget it's dream and never become an expert at that thing. I honestly don't agree on this non booing thing because if we do boo, it could give the kid an opportunity improve.

Yes I am considering auditioning for the talent show because last year I did not audition. I think I am ready to do this. Last year I was way too nervous to do this so that is why I didn't do this last year.
ReplyDeleteI am really good at singing and I am going to sing at the talent show with my friends. I love singing but I don`t know if other people would like my singing.
I think audiences in elementary school should not boo because it may hurt other people's feelings and it is not nice. I do agree with this policy.

I am going to try out for the talent show. The reason is because my friend said that I'm a good singer. I enjoy singing a lot. One of my biggest fears is the people. What if they don't like me. But in are school we don't boo. I don't know why but it is what it is. What I think I'll do is maybe dance and sing, Just Give Me a Reason.

I'm not concernd in going into the talent show because I don't want to at all because I don't like performing at all.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any talents at all and if I did I would probably be terrible at all of them except for like two.
I do not know why people are not allowed to boo but I
think it is a terrible rule and that it shouldn't be a rule.
~Mr. Folafogas
Yes I want to audition for the talent show. I have so many talents.
ReplyDeleteI can burp the abc and play the guitar and piano and drums and I can do magic. I'm going to perform magic.
About the booing, I do not know. Maybe because it will hurt their feelings because they have been working on it. But if you are bad at it you should be able to boo.
~FantasticBOB
I think maybe or not about auditioning for the talent show because no one would like to see my talent. They would just laugh at me especially my parents.
ReplyDeleteI have opera, magic trick, dancing and reading a love quote. I am very good at them but I don't think people would like to see my talents.
To show respect at the performer that is trying his/her best to perform not just make him/her cry while booing. Yes I do agree in this policy because I don't want performers crying.
-Sgt.Jaba
I would LOVE to be in the Talent Show because I never was in a Talent Show in my life. What I want to sing is Heart Attack or Demons.
ReplyDeleteThe talent I think I have is singing. I have a beautiful voice like a follower. I want to show my voice to my school. I am good at dancing but not like singing. I love acting. It is easy if you know what to do.
I think audiences in elementary school not allowed to boo is because some kids will cry if you boo at them. Some kids will be upset. If you like one kids singing or dancing. I think it is fair that kids in are not allowed to boo.
-bunnyboo
Maybe I am still thinking about auditioning but I do have a song in mind though.
ReplyDeleteI do have lots of talents like singing, dancing and acting but mostly I want to sing because I like the song Don´t Let Me Down.
I don´t care what people say to booing. I think you should say anything.
~superkitty
I don't really know! I haven't done it any year, but I always fantasize about being in the talent show, dancing or singing or acting... but I always try to motivate myself. I think I just get scared.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE to dance, sing and act!!(I want to be an actress when I grow up) I think I am pretty good at all of them and I think I rock at acting!:)
I don't know why they have the rule about booing. I'm not saying that kids should be allowed to boo, but... I just don't know:/
~GirlOnline
YES! I am going to definitely sign up for the talent show.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why I really want to do it.
I think I'm going to dance and sing at the same time.
I think I'm really good at it.
I think that students should not be able to say boo because its rude.
Here are some songs I could dance and sing to.
1. Rotten to the Core.
2. Me Too from Meaghan Trainor
3. Can't Be Tamed from Miley Cyrus
4. Star Ships from Nikki Minaj
5. One Dance from Drake
and lots more.
~sock saver
I will not perform for school because I have a bad performance for the stage.
ReplyDeleteAre people allowed to boo at the people that do a bad performance?
Are people allowed to get off the stage with out saying thank you???!!!
~thing3
I think that nobody should be allowed to boo as people come off stage. That is rude and hurts people's feelings. All skills are considered a talent. It is not limited to certain skills like singing or dancing (Not saying that those are not talents). I hope that everyone has an amazing time and the auditions go well. Have fun everybody!
