I remember when I was a student in Grades 4 or 5, that I never celebrated my birthday at school because it always fell around the Thanksgiving holiday. We were usually on a break and I don't remember getting acknowledged for even having a birthday at school. I don't remember students actually being allowed to bring treats when it was their birthday. Me, being someone who is pretty low-key - that is, I don't usually like being singled out, didn't mind that nobody knew when it was my birthday.
It seems like now, having a small celebration in class is normal, or even expected. There really is no written rule about how students want to celebrate their birthdays when it falls on a school day. Some parents email me ahead of time and ask if it is okay to have a treat and other students just bring something on that day. There are also some students that do not bring anything at all, and that's okay too.
What are your thoughts about in-school birthday celebrations? Do you just like to get treats, no matter what the occasion?
How about the students whose birthdays fall during summer break? Do you feel sorry for them that they do not get a chance to celebrate in school?

I think in-school celebrations are a fun way to celebrate your birthday with your friends and teacher! Although I can't seem to figure out why YOU bring the treats. If it's your birthday, shouldn't THEY be the ones giving you stuff? I mean... honestly...
ReplyDeleteI had my birthday last November. I didn't bring treats for a lot of reasons, 1st.my last paragraph, 2nd.you guys all get things in your lunch like gummies, brownies, just candy in general, I usually bring vegetables and stuff like that. So... suck it up!
Honestly, I liked all the treats people brought this year AND last year. I just feel really gross after eating them though. I really need to stop eating them.

I don't really care about in school celebrations. It just doesn't matter to me if I have a birthday at a specific place. I'm just glad I have a birthday. I also don't care if the birthday person brings a treat. Sometimes I've had so much sugar in one day, I don't want to have a treat.
ReplyDeleteI have not had a birthday yet. I really like the day I was born, because once I go to go on a snowboarding field trip on my birthday. This year my birthday will be on a Tuesday, but I'm not so happy because I have to wake up in the morning and run. That is not how I like a good to start. On my birthday, I will not bring a treat because then I don't get a regular birthday cake. I'd rather just eat as much cake as I can on that day than having one piece. THAT is TORTURE!!!
I don't really have a favourite treat. I like everything that someone brings. I'm not very picky about eating food as long there is food, I'm not grumpy and upset which means its a good day.
For my birthday I don't really want anything. I already have everything I need. Plus I don't really play with anything because I study almost everyday for about two hours. I just sometimes don't have enough time to play or do fun things. It's also because I like to play outside a lot. That's mostly the reason why my parents bought a trampoline and a swing set.

I love in-school celebrations. I like them because we get treats and its fun too. I love it because we get to sing happy birthday. Sometimes I even get people presents on their birthday.
ReplyDeleteMy birthday is on September 22. I did not bring any treats to school because my parents celebrated my birthday at Launch Pad. My parents told me that affording Launch Pad is too expensive so they did not give me any treats to bring to school. I invited eight people to my birthday.
The best treats I had was a vanilla cake,chocolate cupcakes and chocolate muffins.

I think its better to have a birthday outside of school because I don't have to buy anything for anyone. I also like birthdays outside of school because then I have the whole day to do whatever I want.

I like that people have there birthdays at school because you get to have a treat when they bring treats but if they don't then they don't, but its okay if they don't because why should they. Its not the students birthday.

I love celebrating birthdays in school because we get to celebrate a person's special day, wish them something nice and especially get treats! I think birthdays are special and wonderful. You cant always have your birthday everyday. That's why I like celebrating a person's birthday.

My parents might let me bring a cake or cupcake because last year I brought two cakes: one is vanilla and one is chocolate, but I think this year I might bring only one cake. It's up to my parents to think about it.
The tastiest treat that I ever had was the sweet and colorful cake that my friend brought today. But I still liked the treats that other people bring.

ReplyDeleteI have not had my birthday yet this school year but mine is at the end of this month so I will have my birthday on a school day. But it is on a Monday. At least when I wake up I will not be grumpy like on a usual Monday morning. My birthday is on January 30th, the day before the last of the month. My mom will bring treats like usual.

I love it when people celebrate their birthday in school. Mostly because I get a cupcake or cake. Also because I get to wish them a happy birthday. If they don't bring cake - cupcakes whatever, no big deal. Like me I don't ever bring treats, but I bring like 6 KIDS and my mom brings like 50 ADULTS, all of the treats-pop-etc are there.

I adore in school birthdays. They are the best. They are so on so on. I wonder why everyone usually brings a treat. I just sometimes bring treats because sometimes I feel really good when my friends celebrate outside at recess. I love my birthday.

ReplyDeleteNo not this year so far I had my birthday. My birthday is in the summer time, August the 30th so I might bring a treat before school ends. I don't know why you would want to bring a treat.
I will say my favorite treat someone brought was silly brownie's cake. It was really nice and the icing was super yummy.
On my birthdays I only invite three to four people so it's not too crowded and we can all play my x-box.

On my opinion, I think that celebrating your birthday at school is a good idea! Sometimes I don't take the treat because I don't want it from the store. I like treats home made. Mostly I do have the treats. Another reason why I sometimes don't eat the treats is because I might have not ate much at lunch. If I eat something sweet or creamy on my hungry stomach, I would feel sick.
ReplyDeleteMy birthday is in spring break so I just bring a tasty treat on the last day of school. Last time we bought cake, usually my mother would cook cake, but unfortunately children did NOT like it!! After that we went to Banff and visited a lake. I don't really remember the name of the lake.
I did not have a birthday since September. Now is January.

I sorta like it when people bring treats to give to the whole classroom because sometimes they're sweet and I like sweet candy and I also like non sweet food. I like all the treats that they bring to share with the class.

I don't remember anyone bringing birthday treats into class when I was in elementary school either. My birthday is in the summer so I was never in school for my actual birthday.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed sending Rice Krispie cake to school when it was my daughter's birthday. It's not as high in sugar as cupcakes and is easy to eat (and clean up!).
I think everyone needs to feel special on their birthday, and if having a treat with your classroom helps you feel special (and if the teacher is OK with it), then I think it's a fun thing to do.
