Have you ever been called a name that wasn't your actual name? I don't mean name calling or teasing. I mean being called by a nickname. Maybe it was your name, just shortened such as "Eddie" even though your full name is Edward. Maybe your parents called you "Baby" like my parents did because I was the youngest child.
This year I have nicknamed my class "Chicken Nuggets." There's no special reason I chose chicken nuggets other than the fact that I really like chicken nuggets. I guess I could have called them "Bacon Bits" since I love those too. I'm not so sure if they like it or not but I think it makes them feel sort of special in a way. It's kind of like our very own little secret that no other class is aware of. They are also pleading to be called the "The Little Hams" because I'm the Big Ham. Last year I nicknamed the class "Snozzcumbers" after a food in the novel, The BFG.
Sometimes nicknames are unkind or just plain hurtful. For example, let's say you're not very tall. Some people might call you "Shorty" or "Half Pint" or "Short Stuff." Speaking from experience, these names don't bother me personally but I can see how it could affect others.
What do you think about nicknames? Do you have one yourself or do your parents have one for you? What are some other names that you think I could call students in Room 14?

I think that nicknames are awesome, because they can be funny and weird. They can be what ever you want them to be you and you and your friends want them to be. I could sit around all day giving everyone a nickname.
ReplyDeleteI do have a nickname. My parents gave me a nickname and my friends also gave me a nickname. My parents gave me the nickname of Silly Illy. That is because I liked to be called Illy and they think I am silly. My friends named me Illy because no one said my name right but I also just like it.
I think that Room 14 would be called M&MS. Honestly I could think all day of 100 that they could be called but just a few more like monkeys or turkeys. There is a ton.

I think nicknames are okay because if there are strangers my mom/dad can call me my nickname, but if they do it every single day more then 5 times, I start to get annoyed.

I don't like nicknames. Because if a teacher calls her class a nickname you don't know if she is talking to you or the class. Sometimes I like them only if they are nice names. And I'm fine with them.
ReplyDeleteThe only nickname I have is one and it's from my teacher The Big Ham. It is her little Chicken Nuggets. I like the name. I'm happy that we have one.
The Big Ham could call us the Little Spiders then she could be the Big Spider. That's the only thing one I have that she could call us.

I think that nicknames are funny because that was what my family give for me.

I wish Big Ham call us Litte Hams because she`s Big Ham and us are little Hams and just like we are half in the Ham and she cut big and we are little.

I think that nick names are not really my thing because sometimes I don't really like the nick name I get. It sounds weird to me. Sometimes it just sounds funny.

I think that nicknames are cool because they are basically names that can be made up for fun.

I think that Room 14's name should be Little Hams.

I like nicknames. They are pretty cool because my name is pretty long so I have a nickname. It is nice having a nickname. It is kind of fun =). It's like a secret name or something like that=) and they are FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope the class can be the Little Popcorns and the Big Ham can be called the Big Popcorn. Popcorn ha ha ha so funny. That is a nice nickname=).

I think nicknames are good for calling your friends or family names so we you don't have to call your family or friends their real names.
ReplyDeleteMy mom calls me my real nickname and my nickname is Naya. It's short for my real name so it is like saying your real name but taking away some letters in your name.
Room 14 can be called Student Helpers or Student Smurfs.

I think that nicknames are pretty cute and embarrassing at the same time! Although I actually like getting called by a nickname! My friends would always call me " Char-Char or Char to shorten my name! I go by that because I like it and even my parents started calling me that too!
ReplyDeleteMy parents calls me, obviously Char but they mostly say my real name but I don't care what they call me as long as it's not embarrassing. My parents occasionally call me a different nickname! They used to call me "Angel" because my middle name was Angel but I really like that when I was a little kid, but now I realized that it's a little much because Sometimes I can be crazy! So I don't really mind people call me an "angel". I also have a nickname that I called myself in French class last year, it's "the potato " but I like Char better!
Now since I'm not in room 14 anymore I would help them come up with nicknames! I'm thinking of little candy corns? Or something that is sugary because sometimes classes can be crazy and sugar rush is crazy. Also how about Little French fries? Or little potatoes?
