Cheer Leading

Cheer leading is a sport where people (both girls and boys) perform a lot of flips, stunts and dancing. It is a team sport which can be made up of up to 24 people. We practice twice a week for two hours at a time. My team’s name is Thrill and there are 19 girls on my team and we have three coaches. This is a very popular sport. There are two other girls in my class that are also cheerleaders. My team does not use pompoms, but some teams do.

On the weekend, we had a competition called Cold Snap. It is a cheer leading competition that a lot of cheer clubs compete. Some of the clubs are Alberta Cheer Empire (the one I belong to), Calgary Star, 306 Elite, Perfect Storm and some other ones. The competition was held at the Expo Centre and there were a lot of people watching and competing.

My team placed 4th place out of six teams. We hit zero both days. Hitting zero means that you get no deductions, such as falling. My team’s routine is 2:30 long. I am a back spot and a base. This means that I have to hold ankles to make sure that they don’t fall back backwards. A base means that I do a lot of lifting for my other teammates.

There are teams that are really high level and they can go to something called Worlds. Two of my club’s teams got bids or invitations and one of them is called Synergy and the other one is Insurgence. World’s is being held in Florida this year.

What are your thoughts on cheer leading? Would it be something that you would participate in? Describe a time you played for a team.

  1. Yes I would do cheer leading. It looks fun but I might get hurt so I don’t really know.

I will not go in cheer. It looks scary.

I play in a team soccer at home and I push my dad down when we play.

  2. It's fun. I'm in cheer. We're only doing handstands and jumping. I can't do any of it because I have to practice my bridges. It kind of sucks but it's fun. I go every Monday and for 1 hour and 30 minutes. I'm a base in cheer. Today is going to be my fourth week in cheer. We use these mats and these octagon looking things. You do a back handspring on it. I don't have much experience but when I was younger I did gymnastics for awhile then stopped when school started.

  3. Personally I`d be so scared. Half my body would be dead, especially if I was tossed in the air. But from a distance it`s kind of like doing acrobatics and gymnastics mushed together. Kind of???

I would not like to participate in cheer because I personally am blind. Once I take my glasses off, I can`t see a thing.

Once I played for a Timbits soccer team but that`s a bit dumb.

  4. I think cheer leading would be very scary for me. I don't want to be the person who breaks his back because he did a triple back flip or something.

I would never do something like cheer. It scares me out of my skin. If I was forced to I'd rather die.

The only time I've ever participated in a team is when I played
soccer. The past two years I've been in a premier club -
that means you compete for real. But before I did that I was just in community.

  5. The Big Ham just showed to us a video about cheerleaders. I think I want to be one of those girls who fly in the air and do back flips, handstands and splits.

I will choose cheer leading the best of all because I like to be flexible.

I am not participating in a cheer leading competition but I am participating in gymnastics.

  6. The Big Ham showed us a video all about cheer and what I think
about cheer is kind of fun. But the thing is about cheer is you
have to practice 2 hours a week but I still like cheer because
you get thrown up in the sky.

I would like to participate but I would rather do chores.

  7. I think cheer leading is a fun sport but at the same time I also think that it's a little dangerous because you might break your bones if you're not that flexible enough, in my opinion.

I might participate at cheer leading if I'm flexible enough to do the splits, bridge and more that cheerleaders do that some people can't do. Also if I'm a cheerleader I would be the person that is holding or tossing the person in the air.

I've never been in cheer leading before so I can't describe the time I played for a team. But even though I'm flexible or not I'm not going in cheer leading. Even Gymnastics. I've never been to gymnastics because I'm not flexible enough. But you don't need to be flexible because if you're always doing cheer leading or gymnastics you're going to get better.

  9. I think that cheerleading would be hard because I'm small and I am not as strong. But if I was in there I would only go just because I want to be tossed in the air and have so much fun! I like when I at least get to watch it on YouTube!

I more like swimming than anything! I would only go if I was really strong compared to right now! I really don't play on teams as much but some times I play with my Dad and my brothers and team up with my Dad but unfortunately my brothers team up too! I really like teaming up but I don't really get to, it's mostly in school! I love teaming up with a ton of people! But my favourite and always will be is...being lazy all day! And I will not be going ever to there unless I am strong as the kids in cheer!

  10. I think cheer leading is an odd sport. I never know what's going on. I would never be able to do it, I'm not flexible at all.

I have played three types of sports. My favorite is BMX. It is where you are racing against other competitors to get first place and make it to the finals.

  11. I do not like cheer. I think I would get hurt.

  12. Personally, I don't mind chee. I'm not involved in it. I'm not interested in it, and even if I was, honestly the only thing I could do is break a couple of bones.

Something I would participate in would be a detective camp. I love solving mysteries, looking for clues and brainstorming ways to catch the culprit.

In school I've played Dr. Dodge-ball on a team, and let me say I am really really good!

  13. I think that cheer leading is for very few people. Not like me. Most boys or girls have to be flexible. Because if you are not flexible and you joined cheer, well I don't know about you but you might get hurt because you will be doing back flips and lots of those stuff are dangerous.

I would not join cheer because I am not flexible at all and I would get hurt. Something that I would join is badminton because I am good at and I use a Viper for a finisher. Usually many kids in my class are pretty skilled.

I have played on a team. I don't really remember what team name we had. But we played against Lloydminster and Airdrie. Our team came in 1st place and won the golden trophy.

  14. My thoughts about cheer leading: well because I do cheer leading and it is the best thing I have ever done in my life. When blueberry said she came in 4th place, my two teams both well one of them came in 1st place and the other team placed in 2nd. My team that place 1st was so scared.

I belong in Alberta Cheer Empire, the one that blueberry is in. When they called for 8th place it said Alberta Cheer Empire and we thought it was my team but it was the other Alberta Cheer Empire team. My teams are called in Youth 2: Majesty. I have so many friends in that team. In Youth 1 Sublime and I have so many friends in that team too.

I am going to do cheer leading for until I am 22 years old or 23 years old. I remember instead of 24 people in a team my coach says that you can have up to 30 people in a cheer team.

  15. I like watching the cheer video. I like to see the cheer girls flying in the air.

I would like to play soccer with my friends at school.

  16. I think that it would be fun to be a cheer leader. I think that it would not be that hard because I am already flexible because I do gymnastics. I would like to be the flyer because I am light and if I was the base it would be hard for me to catch people.

I would love to be in cheer. I think that I would like cheer because it looks fun and also scary.

I have played football and I was on a team. I have played girls/boys soccer.

  17. I think cheer leading is cool but it is not my thing because I'am not really flexible and I would be scared flipping or tossing up the sky. The Big Ham did show us a cheer video and if I was in cheer I would be confused.

I would not participate in cheer because it is different for me because my bones are hard. My brother is more softer than me

Sometimes I'm in a team in taekwando but sometimes it is solo.
