Ringette is my favourite sport. It was founded by Sam Jacks in 1963. The objective of the game is to outscore the other team. When ringette was created it was just for girls, but now boys can play it too. Unlike hockey there are only two periods. They are each 18 minutes. At halftime we sing a song to the crowd. It’s kind of like a cheer.
I like all of the rules to it. For the people who play hockey I think that they should try ringette. They are two similar sports because you need a stick, skates, and a rink. Instead of a puck, we use a blue rubber ring. You need to stab the ring on the ice in order to move it around.
You might think that all of the rules are complicated but once you get to know them they are pretty easy. One of the rules is that you have to pass over each blue line and you cannot pass to yourself. Another big rule is that you can’t go in the goalie crease which is bigger than in hockey.
I’ve played ringette for three years. Kittycathat and I play on the same U-10 team called the Purple Dragons. We have lots of fun together. My favourite position is playing center. The job of the center is to be everywhere. You are a defense and a forward at the same time. You must skate a lot and very fast to keep up. My least favourite position is goalie because it is overwhelming.
I can’t wait to play ringette next year and move up to U-12! In U-12 there is a shot clock where you only have 30 seconds to take a shot. A shot only counts if you hit the goalie.
1. What do you think about ringette and why?
2. If you were to play a ringette position, would you play offence, defence or goalie?
3. What is your favourite winter sport to play or watch, and why?

BLOGGER OF THE WEEK
Great post, Gadget Girl! After showing the class, it looks like a great sport but I wouldn't be able to play very well because I'm not a very good ice skater. Also, it looks like you need a lot of hand-eye coordination and I definitely don't have that.
ReplyDeleteIf I were to play a position, it would most likely be offence. I like the freedom of skating around everywhere. It sounds like if you play defence on ringette, you're restricted to only one portion of the ice.
My favourite winter sport to watch is ice hockey. I'm a huge Edmonton Oilers fan and I hope they make the playoffs this year. My favourite winter sport to do is ice skating. I don't do it very often because I'm so bad at it but that would be my first choice.

I don't like the sound of ringette but if I have to do it I will try but it looks really hard to do and boring. My teacher showed my class a ringette game. It is the weirdest thing I have seen in my life.
ReplyDeleteIf I could pick a position it would be goalie because that is the only thing I like to do in sports because any thing else I am horrible at.
My favourite winter sport would be cross country skiing. I've never tried it but that is the only winter sport that I know that you do in the winter. And also because I am a little good at skiing but I am not as good as a guy in my class.

Ringette seems like fun to play. It looks a lot like hockey and I like hockey.
ReplyDeleteThe position I would play is defence because I would protect the goalie.
My favourite winter sport to watch is hockey. My dad gets VIP passes from work a few times a year. We get a booth with food and free stuff.

I think that ringette is great. It is very close to hockey and my favorite sport is hockey.
ReplyDeleteIf I played a ringette position I would play defence because it is fun to block.
My favorite sport is hockey because it is fun to block the puck and shoot.

I think that ringette is an amazing sport because it is exercise and it is a great opportunity to learn something new or to learn better hockey. But if I would be playing I would be failing by now because I am not a good skater or a good hockey player. I still would be terrified.
ReplyDeleteIf I would get a choice of what would I like to be for the game I would choose the middle because I could move everywhere and I could do anything by being on that spot. But if someone would want the spot I would be happy to give the spot and choose something else.
I really don't have a favourite sport to watch or to play because I am not from here. I really think that hockey is boring and every game on ice or on snow, I think all of them are boring. But if I had to chose one for no reason I would choose hockey because it is the only game that comes to my mind and that I can spell.

I think it would be fun to play but I can’t skate so I probably would not be able to because I would fall on my face, crying like A BABY! My teacher showed us a video of ringette and they were really good. I mean like really good.
ReplyDeleteIf I were to do a ringette position I would play offence because I like the fact of scoring a goal and everybody cheering for me because I got the goal. Nobody else but me.
My favourite sport to watch is hockey because I think the moves they pull off are fabulous and they're so clean. My favourite hockey team is the Calgary Flames because I lived there for the first 5 years of my life. My favourite player is Mark Giordano, the Calgary Flames team captain.

I think ringette is harder than soccer.
ReplyDeleteIf I was playing the ringette I would play offence because if you're defense all you have to do is try to get the ring.
My favorite winter sport is probably hockey because that is the only winter sport I know is hockey. I watch hockey but I don't play hockey. Mostly I watch hockey sometimes.
My favorite sport in summer is soccer. It is easy to play and you need a goalie. But the only thing you can't do is trip people or push them.

I think that ringette sounds a lot like hockey.
ReplyDeleteIf I could play any position I would play defense for I am a very good defender. I think it would be fun to play ringette but I already am playing basketball.

Hi, Gadget Girl! Great post! I have a question for you,is SAM JACKS Canadian?
ReplyDeleteI think ringette is a very cool sport because it is just like hockey. Me and my dad love watching hockey and it is our favorite show!!!
If I would play ringette the position that I would play is offence because I am a pretty good scatter and I can get some goals !!! :3 I hope I can do a blog post...
~lollipop123
I'm not that familiar with ringette, but it does sound fun. I'm not sure my parents would think it's a good idea. But if I ditched soccer and I sign up for ringette, I'd probably LOVE IT! I know I will, but I'm telling you, I'd never quit soccer! THAT'S RIDICULOUS!!!
ReplyDeleteIf I were to choose a position it would be defense. I've learned my lesson from choosing offence in soccer, I'm always being put as striker and the defense get an advantage. Usually the puck, ball, ring etc. will stay in the middle and defense rarely get a taste of the ball or whatever you're using. I just hope there's no punching in it, but on the other hand it doesn't sound like a ruff sport.
My favourite sport to watch is hockey. I don't ever play winter sports, but I should get into a little hockey because it sounds like fun. But I tried to convince my dad before but he said, "I don't like the idea, hockey is ruff, I don't think you'll like it."
Also note to parents, please never put me in any winter sports, thanks =D

Ringette sounds pretty fun especially when it's like hockey. I think it's probably harder for you have to put the stick in the hole. I'm not a big fan of hockey, but I think it's pretty fun doing ringette and hockey. I think it sounds fun, for you can skate around just having the puck on your stick and it also might be easy to score for no one can really get the ring.
ReplyDeleteIf I were to play a ringette position, I would choose goalie. For me not running so hard with all the equipment on and I just like to be as lazy as I can be.
My favourite sport to watch for I don't play any, is curling.
They basically just throw a little puck with a handle on it and after it gets thrown, they brush the ice so there is nothing in the way so it doesn't stop. It will try to go in the middle called a button. I have no idea why I like it even when that's all they do but I don't care.
~disneyfan25
I think that ringette is not for me because I hate winter and I like basketball. The reason I like basketball is because I played soccer for four years and I sucked, but when I played basketball I was awesome.
ReplyDeleteI would be defence because I like moving around but not a long ways.
I don’t really care for winter sports so if I know what is going on I’ll watch it.
~Toxic Miner Doesn't Hop the Twig
I don't know how to ice skate but I do know what ringette is but not Purple Dragons. What is Purple Dragons?
ReplyDelete~doggywarrior
I love ringette, its such a fun sport! (I don't know what else to say, sorry).
ReplyDelete~kittycathat
I don't like ringette at all. I don't like to play on ice and I'm really bad at it so do not tell me do it.
ReplyDeleteI would be defence. It might be fun and exciting to play but I am not a good skater so my butt will break.
I like to watch hockey and skating so I can watch them fall on their butt.
~puppy
I think ringette sounds weird because you get a stick and you skate all around the rink trying to stab a ring.
ReplyDeleteIf I could choose a position in ringette it would be defence.
My favourite winter sport is skiing.
~doggy
I play hockey. It's sort of like ringette. For hockey you have to wear a cage to make sure that you don’t get hurt on your mouth. And if you get thirsty you have to have a long straw to drink the water. But I always just spray my water bottle into my mouth. When you get bigger you decide if you don't want a cage or not.
ReplyDeleteI would want to play defense.
