A few years ago there was a Staples commercial on T.V. where the popular Christmas song, "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" was playing and a father was skipping up and down the aisles while his two kids were dragging their feet and looking very dejected. If you haven't seen it or don't remember, here's your refresher. Although I get a chuckle from it every time, I wonder if that's the prevailing attitude of most kids.
I think teachers are usually super excited to begin every year. We look forward to meeting new students, teaching new concepts and having fun with our class. Although I'm sure some won't admit it, I think that many students also look forward to going back to school. There's something exciting about having the opportunity to start over, the smell of new school supplies and the chance to make a good, positive beginning to the year.
What are your thoughts on going back to school?

To all my former students who helped create Forest 14, I wish you the best of luck at your new school. Come back and visit both virtually and physically. I encourage and welcome your continued thoughts and comments to the new bloggers in Room 14. It would be interesting hearing from older, former students.
To all my new students, Forest 14 will be your chance to have a voice in the world. Share issues that matter to you and start conversations between students, both old and new.

Maybe students don't say they're excited about going back to school because they're also feeling nervous about the newness of a school year. I remember feeling excited and afraid in almost equal measure when I started a new school year.
ReplyDeleteI certainly looked forward to starting this school year, even though I was sad that my summer was ending . . .
Yeah I started two and I said TWO weeks early and I had lots of fun. Boring classes in the morning and a seven km run in the afternoon. The joys of school.

(p.s this comment was not two paragraphs long so ha ha)
I bet you're thanking your previous teacher (that would be me) for all that R.A.C. training you received last year. I hope you demonstrated to your classmates your superior running and endurance skills and attributed your success to your former teacher.
DeletePerhaps your sibling will be looking forward to contibuting longer responses. I'm excited and can't wait.
Hope to see you comment on future blog posts. Always look forward to hearing your perspective.

ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of when I had to go school shopping for this year. I was very sad like a full day of gray and my mom was there for hours! It was non stop school shoping for suplise and new cloths so it was like 5 hours at walmart without any McDonalds. It was so boring and finally my Mom decided to go home.
ReplyDeleteWhen it was the first day of school I tried to sleep in and pretend like I was sick but I had to go anyways.

This reminds me of two people from my class. It's so funny like their dad was so happy to get rid of them, but the kids were not happy to go back to school. Their dad was taking so many items for back to school. The two kids were just staring at their dad. It looks like the kids are not as happy as their dad. Their dad was flying around the store and dancing.
