Report cards went out on SchoolZone on Friday, March 23, 2014.
Now that they are available exclusively online, it seems that it is not such an important occasion anymore. I have always said to my students that they should not be scared of a report card. It is merely a document that indicates how well you are doing at this point in time. It may also tell you what you need to improve on for next term.
I hope that students and their parents are sitting down together to view the report card. Do not just look at the letter grade. The effort you put in is equally important. If you are getting a "Satisfactory" effort, what could you do to make that an "Excellent" effort? Also, it's important to read the comments I wrote for you. Each comment was written specifically to praise you or to give you suggestions to help you become a better student.
I hear that some students are getting "paid" for As. This practice makes me a tad uneasy. What if there's never a chance that you're going to get an A, even though you're trying your best? You may be setting yourself up for failure. Isn't it better to see if you've improved from term to term? What about taking a look at your effort mark? Does your teacher think that you are trying your best?
As stated above, you should not be scared to look at your report card. If you've listened to my feedback in class and looked at your results on tests and quizzes, you can probably pre-determine what marks you're going to receive.

I think report cards are very good because I think it's important to know how you're doing in school.
ReplyDeleteThis term I think I can do better. I got mostly got B's. But I know I can do better. In LA I think I should have really got a B because I know I did good. But I guess not good enough.
My best report card is this year. Because this year me and my teachers had a conference about school so this year I'm trying to change. Because now I know how important this stuff is.
Did you know some kids get money for A's? I think it is dumb because I don't know I think you should just feel self accomplishment.

DeleteWhat I think about report cards is that they're ok because it just tells you how good and bad you were in school and how you did in subjects and if you did good in class.

I think report cards are useful. I think they are useful because they can tell you how good you are doing in school and your subjects. I am not going to write anything else in this paragraph because my mind is such a blank.
ReplyDeleteI did pretty well this term. I think for some kids, though, I got a REALLY good mark. I got all A's except for in art. I got a B in art. In our school, the marks go by A's, B's, C's, And D's. I said that because I know that in some schools, A means acceptional. Yeah, like I said I did pretty well this term.
At the end of the school year, I get something from my Nana because of how well I do. I think I always get 5 dollars and some other stuff. I really appreciate the gifts.
I think my best term in a report card (in my life), is probably last term. I got all A's. I wasn't very excited about it but my parents and friends were amazed.

Report cards are good but they are not that good because it is just a report card. It tells you what I need to improve.

I don't have any agreement with parents about getting good grades and getting stuff.
My best report card I have is from third grade. I have all ( A).

I think that report cards are scary because you might get a bad mark. They are good because it tells you what to improve.

Some people get paid for A's. That is dumb. You are not supposed to get paid.
I do not know the best report card I got because I can not remember it.

I do not like report cards. You do not need a computer to tell you how good/bad you are at school. Thats what parents are for and teachers.

Some people get pay for As that is stupid. I do not get payd for As.
My best report card was in grade 1. I got all As and it was cool and I got ice cream.

I like report cards because they are great. I'm happy about them because I always have a good or bad grades.

I had a agreement with my parents. That if I got a lot of A's I would get to chose what game we go play for family game night.
The best report card is this years report cards. Last years report card was okay. I got some A's and some B's last year.

My best report card is A, A, A, A, B, B, B, C, C.

Report cards are scary to certain people because they worry. For me it means nothing. It is not scary. The more scared people are the better grade they get.
ReplyDeleteI got 16 A's and 2 B's in both terms. The best report cards I ever got was in grade 1 I had straight A's
I have no agreement with my parents but if I did it would be $4.00 per A, $1.00 per B.

I think that report cards are really good for us because we have to know about how we are learning. We have to know about that which subject we have to improve and which subject you are improving.
ReplyDeleteI did good at it but I don't like my report card because my mom said you don't have to be late for school and you have to get A grades in my report card.
I never had an agreement about my grades.

I think Report cards are not cool because if you show your Report card to your parents they will YELL AT YOU. But I didn't show my to my parents. I don't think we should have a Report cards.
ReplyDeleteI think I did bad this term because I am bad in everything. The only thing that I am good at is Math and Music Because I am a music person.
I get payed for every A I get but I only got one and that is bad. But I don't care if I only got one.
I didn't get a good Report card. Mostly I got Cs and Bs at that is not good

I didn't do that good but I did not get too many C's. I really wasn't that surprise when I saw a C on my report card.
ReplyDeleteI did my term from practicing at home and I'm not really doing that good for term two. I study not that much but I study hard things that I don't know.
My dad said about my grade's I will get a PlayStation 4 for my self that no one can use yesterday. No one else in my family I don't think is getting agreements for me.
I got the best report card when I was in grade one. I got all A's. I didn't get any other report cards that is the best.

Report cards are a good thing because it means you have to know what you need to work on it.

I don't think I enjoyed getting report cards when I was a child, but I like reading my daughter's report cards. I like to see how much she has learned and where she has improved each term. She doesn't like getting report cards though; she thinks that they show her mistakes more than her strengths. I try to tell her that she has a lot to be proud of, as she always does her best.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to school now, too. I am always excited to get my final grades at the end of each term because I also try my best and I'm proud of my learning.
I think report cards is good because you can look how you are good at and you can get better at it.
ReplyDeleteAt first term I think I did little good job I got 4 A,1 B and 4 C. At second term I got 4 A, 2 B and 4 C.
My parents said if you got A in Science and Social I will get anything I want my mom and dad.I got A in Music. My mom is so happy.
I have little bit of happy report card at grade 4.

Well I got a bit of A's, but I know I could have done better. I mean come on, all I have to do is just study for test and stuff. I got five A's and 3 B's and One C in Art!. I get ten bucks an A so I got 50 bucks. I am going to try really hard next term, just not in art
