Most of you probably knew I was going to write about this, considering you know who I am. If you don’t, well then, hello! I have chosen the topic of k-pop because, well, most of you don’t know what k-pop is. For your information, k-pop is just pop with a k in front of it (not really). And, I am taking it as my job to tell you about this wonderful thing! So, settle in! Grab some popcorn, and enjoy!
K-pop originated in South Korea, the year 1992, but recently got very popular with BTS becoming the first k-pop group so far to get to go to a western award show, the BBMAS. They even won an award! (My friend bawled her eyes out and cried herself to sleep because she was so happy). It has been getting quite popular lately. They do tend to incorporate English words into their songs names and into the music nowadays, such as "I Need U", "Signal", "Would U" and much more. This might be contributing to why they are getting bigger.
In Korea, they have a much different way of doing and managing activities/jobs. Their songs have choreography, but here, it is much more uncommon. They also have a thing called Hi-Touch, or in much simpler words, a fan meet. The fans get to talk to the idol for a few minutes, get a poster or notebook signed, then move on to the next member. They do this outside, in an arena, really, anywhere. Bands tend to do this more often, and bands are MUCH more common in Korea then they are in Canada or America. Although, sometimes the fans aren’t that nice to the idols if they don’t get what they want. There have been numerous videos of the idol getting physically hurt because a fan didn’t get their way. It is quite sad.
K-pop also has these three things called visuals, maknaes, and bias. Now, I’m not completely certain if we have it here in Canada or America, but from what I’ve seen, we don’t. Visuals, or, a visual, is the beauty of a group. I’m not saying the rest are ugly, but this one represents the group, aside from the leader. And there is only one of them! The bias is your favourite one in the group, (don’t ask why you can’t just say favourite, because I don’t know). You can have as many as you want! The maknae is just the youngest basically. There is the maknae line, which are all the youngest in the group, and then the hyung line, which are the oldest in the group. One quick thing, if you stan an idol, it means you support them and like the group/idol.
Every year, all the bands get together, no matter girl or boy, and have a get together-ish. Basically me saying they get forced to have physical activity such as races and other things. But I’m sure they enjoy each other's company, maybe? ANYWAYSSSSS. All the groups have to have physical activity once a year. They do races, wrestling, archery, acrobats, high jumping, basically, an idol’s version of sports day. Except, more intense! There are levels to it. So, for example, if you win in the match you played for wrestling, you and your band/group would go to the next round. The semi-finals. And so on. At the end of the day, you go home with the prize of feeling good? Maybe? I don’t know, I’m not an idol. (Idol, as in singer)
Everyday, people ask me why I listen to music I don’t understand, or when they hear my music, they look at me funny. Maybe because I blast it and then dance and sing like a maniac in broken Korean-NAH. On a more serious note, does it honestly matter if I listen to Korean music and don’t understand it? Maybe it’s helping me to learn the language? (Which I am trying to do). I want to ask you one thing, do I really have to understand something to think it’s beautiful?
Lastly, I will describe some of my favourite artists (As in all of them. Oh gosh) Ahhh, the one who started this mess, and the group my sister introduced me to, BTS! Or Bangtan, or Bangtan Sonyeondan, or Bulletproof Boy Scouts. The list goes on. This was the boy group I was talking about earlier! The one who won a award at the BBMAS! They are my favourite group ever, they write their own lyrics, challenge the laws of physics with their dances, and consist of seven members. :)
My second favourite at the moment is Twice. Yeah, kind of funny, you know, twice… two… second? Never mind… ANYWAYSSSS. Their songs are very catchy, great vocals, nine kind, pretty, and talented girls, they are one of the many idols I aspire to be like (along with BTS), I really look up to them.
Another one of my favourites before I go emo. Seventeen! No there are not 17 members, there are 13. Although, they were supposed to debut with 17, four of them left before they did. They are a wonderful band with a variety of personalities and characters considering how many members they have. They are over all, just a good boy group. :)
And another one! Blackpink! They are one of the newer girl group who just debuted in late 2016, with only four songs out. I love them nonetheless though! There are four members and they can all speak fluent English and Korean, but only one of them was actually born in Korea… BUT they all have Korean blood in them! Again, like BTS, they basically break the laws of gravity with their dancing! Seriously, it’s hard… They have very unique vocals and great rappers. Although they give off more of a bad girl image, they are very kind-hearted girls! :)
Got7! This is a 7 member boy group with great visuals, vocals, and rappers. They have so much attitude in them. They never give up and continue to try harder and harder everyday!:0 Well, I think I have just taught you everything you need to know to be a k-pop fan, I’ll leave you to it. Your favourite person,
~Diddley Squat
Before I ever heard it, I thought it was quite unusual. Now that I've heard it, it thinks to pretty catchy. Although I don't understand anything, it's nice. The videos are also cool too. I'm guessing they spend over a million dollars to get all the required materials.
ReplyDeleteI mostly listen to boyband music because girlband music never ever appealed to me. I do listen to one girl artist because she has more of a catchy type of song. I listen to Maroon 5,Shawn Mendedes Bruno MArs, Zara Larsson, One Republic, and much more.
~POUTINE GROOT
I think k-pop is really bad because they were all ugly and the visual is supposed to be good looking and also they were speaking a langauge that I have exactly no idea what it was but it sounded like frogs speaking.
ReplyDeleteI like no type of music because first of all I don't listen to music and I only know the song Calliou and Dora the Explorer because those are the only songs I am allowed to listen to.
-thedumbcow
I don't like k-pop because I just don't like music like that for some reason. I also don't like it because I can't understand it at all because I don't know how to speak it.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what music I like because I don't listen to music because I can't remember the names of the songs I like
so I can't download the song and can't listen to it ever again.
~BillNyetheScienceGuy
I did't really care about K-pop too much because it's too wordy and I'm Canadian eh? Plus I only understand English and a little French.
ReplyDeleteI like rock because my mom always played it and it got really catchy. I do listen to music but I don't know who the artists are.
-puppydoggy84
Well, it's funny you asked, since we are the same person... But, I still want to talk about k-pop some more! I think k-pop is one of the most amazing things that has come into my life. The whole community! It has made me closer to the people around me like Kati, my best friend:) She would be sooo happy to see that everyone in class liked our music! The time they spend on making the fans have a connection and making the video feel so- lively! It really surprises me how it can be so touching. The lyrics, videos, the emotion they put in to it. I. Just. Love. It. All. In case you can't tell.
ReplyDeleteThe blog says it all. What music I like, Favourite idols, everything.
~Diddley Squat
I think that K-pop is amazing! Because I love pop music and I think Diddley Squat proved me that I can be a K-pop fan someday because I actually like the tune and the song! I don't care if people think that the lyrics sound different and if it's weird because it's their opinion and Korean people understands it and it's their own music! :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite type of music is pop because I think pop songs are really catchy and wonderful! Sometimes some songs are really stuck in my head because it's so catchy! My favourite artists are Arianna Grande, Chainsmokers, Katy Perry, Twenty-one pilots, and other popular bands and artists and I'm starting to like k-pop songs! :) Sometimes I listen to childish songs for example the Barney theme song and the Caillou theme song.It just reminds me of my childhood!

Don't know what K-POP is because I never heard of it.
ReplyDeleteI like RAP. I can name some rap singers: M&M, Ice Cube, Panda and Starboy.

I think k-pop SUCKS a lot because they do too much uhuhahuhing. They do WAY too much of it and I cannot understand a single word they say.
ReplyDeleteI like pop rock music. I like it because it is catchy but not any uhuhahuhing. Some of my favorite artists are:
1.American Authors
2.Imagine Dragons
I can go on forever in boy bands but I won´t :(
~ConsumedCactus5
I like K-pop. It's amazing and I don't care if it's from a different country or anything that involves a different language. I always watch K-pop video. I used to not like it but some person showed it to me, and now I like it. It's because of the song (Spring Song). I like Korean Song now because its really catchy. I like it. Today I will go home and do that song.:) I LOVE IT....
ReplyDeleteI like lots of K-pop music. Anyways about the other paragraph I didn't like K-pop. When I was 5 years old I liked country music and baby songs. ANYWAYS. Here are some of my favorite artists: Chainsmokers, Twenty One Pilots,Ed Sheeran, and lots of more and I have like thousands of them. Sometimes I check out my childhood. I sometimes watch Barney and Teletubbies. HEHEHEH.:)
-animallover
I think it is just a regular boy band just in Korea like Lady Gaga would sing. IF I understand it, it would be even better but just the music is good and catchy and it sounds great. I would recommend it actually. I did not expect it to be good. It is amazing. I am going to watch it at home.
ReplyDeleteYOU SHOULD TOO
I don't listen to music that often but when I do I really love country<3. Every day I go home and booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom. I know lots of people, but I forget them.

Well I mean it's bad I like it. I would listen to it but not every day. I like it because the sound is good and I just like it, but not a lot.
ReplyDeleteI like rap music because it sounds good and it has a lot of bass - what I like. My favorite rapers are Ice Cube and Rob Stone, MNM, Weekend, KSI there you go some of my favorite rappers. Some of the people hate my house because me and my dad play music way too loud.
~l8tercopper
I think k-pop is kind of cool because it's a bit catchy and quite nice. I kind of hear some songs about a few times. But they're kind of great and I am kind of interested about it. I like all kinds of music because they're great and pretty catchy. But i like some artists.
ReplyDelete~thing1

I don't think it's good. I like normal pop better. It sounds more weird than my favourite language, Spanish. It's more catchy to me than to other songs. It's very hard to explain why it's catchy. It just sounds very cool and good.
ReplyDeleteI like sometimes rock or Latin music because they're good to sing along with. I like Luis Fonsi he sings the Spanish song Despacito. It's very catchy music. Check for yourself. And I like One Direction. They used to have five people but Zayn Maltik left the band. Now there's four people. I like the song Drag Me Down.
~ Bob The Unicorn

ReplyDeleteMy favourite band is Selena Gomez/Bad Liar, James Arthur/Just Say You Won't Let Go. One of my favourite songs is Issues and Reminding Me.
~kitkatsmitsmat
I love k-pop because they make amazing music. It's so good and awesome. I really enjoy k-pop. I love rap music more then k-pop because it's like saying random words super fast but they know what they are saying.
ReplyDeleteI love Panda Bad something and more and Snoop Dog. I don't know.
-soldier boy
Wow, are you ever passionate about your music, Diddley Squat! I've never heard of K-pop before, but I think I'll need to listen to some now and see if I like it.
ReplyDeleteI like many different styles of music, from classical and light jazz to a bit of country, folk, and rock music. The only kind of music I don't like is heavy metal, because I can't pick out a melody or lyrics in most of the songs.
I find it interesting that K-pop bands have people classed as 'beautiful' or 'young'. Are the band members considered to be artists, like we would think of great bands here in Canada?
