Did you know there are some schools that get TWO WEEKS off for Spring Break?!? These students got off a week before we did and then returned the same day as us (April 7). You're saying to yourself aloud or in your head: Two weeks?! That's not fair! But students, as I have taught you in Science you can't get something for nothing. Although this is not a force-distance trade-off, it is a trade-off. In order to get two weeks at Spring Break, these students work on a modified calendar and start school in the middle of August. That's right, August. Hmm.
Imagine what you could do with two weeks off though. That's enough time to go on a holiday without feeling guilty that you're missing out on school. It's enough time to clean your room everyday for 14 days, 336 hours, 20 160 minutes or 1 209 600 seconds! Wow, that's a lot of time.
Here's the big question then: would you be willing to trade losing a couple of weeks from summer vacation in August to gain a couple of weeks for Spring Break?
Keep in mind that the weather in the last weeks of August is pretty much guaranteed to be warm and sunny. The weather during late March is unpredictable. We could get two weeks off and it could be raining those entire two weeks. If that's the case, then I'd rather keep all of my summer.
What are your thoughts?

My Spring Break was a lazy one just a whole lot of sitting and eating and playing video games. But it was so awesome to have a week and a half off school:) I can`t wait until SUMMER! My dad did take me and my sister and brother to the trampoline park The Launch Pad! If you are wondering were my other sister she is at her friends. We had a Blast and we got slushys.

I think a week is not enough for a VACA. But two weeks I could go to Disney World and it would be so fun and awesome.
Ok wow I know that we only have one week but I am not willing to start school in the middle of AUGUST! Summer VACA is way more longer and funer then just go off of school for a week. You have to agry with that I mean come on.

My spring break was pretty well "bleh" if you know what I mean. It was just rollerblading,cooking and most of all watching T.V. Personally I love school so I think that the spring break long weekend is just fine. I think that I am one of the only ones who loves school. I think spring break is like what I said, ''just perfect!'' And going back I have always liked school I don't think it could be any longer or shorter.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts on a long spring break are pretty decent. All the usual stuff : play outside with friends,cooking and backing,cleaning, and watching the I Pad or T.V.
My thought about starting school back in August to that I say straight up YES. Because since I love school soooooo much I would live to come back to school early.

DeleteYou raise an interesting point, because looking at the number of school days per year it would look like Canada (which has about 190 days of school days per year) has more days then the USA (which usually has 175-180 school days per year). Alternatively, however, India has about 200 days/year of school and China has about 220 days/year so you're getting more summer vacation then those countries.
That said, however, we'd also have to look at the number of hours actually spent at school and after considering that things start to get a bit more even.
So would you be willing to get up earlier/stay at school later if it meant you would get a longer Christmas/Spring Break/summer vacation?
My Spring Break was good and fun. Spring Break was long but not long enough. Ya two weeks would be nice but losing time on summer is just NO.
ReplyDeleteA long two weeks of Spring Break is better because you have more time with friends and family. If it was two weeks my friend Mr. Minecraft and his brother could have stayed for a longer sleep over.
I would not be ok starting school in August. If school last year started in August me and my family could not go to Germany and Italy for a month. And even if didn't go to Germany or Italy and saw the leaning tower of Pisa. I wold have less time to spend time with my family.

My Spring Break was good. Even though I wanted that it is a week longer or three weeks longer because I do not rely like school. So I can be longer on vacation in Saskatoon. With some of my cousins and my family were in Saskatoon. It was a lot of fun. The Easter was so good same then Easter Monday.

My spring break was amazing! I had lots of fun and went to a movie! I think it was just the right size because I was able to do everything I wanted to do and had eight days left over! (though my list was small..)
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts on a longer spring break is no. I don't need anymore time to do what I want! Kids should have a nice break, but not a two week long Turnyourbraintomush-a-thon! If this happened, kids would go back to school having forgotten everything they learned before they left, and that would be hard on the teachers! And we would have to go to school in August! (AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!)

My spring break was awesome. Me and my family drove to Calgary. I think my spring break should have been longer so I could spend more time in Calgary with my family. But I would not like to start school in August.

My spring break was awesome!!! I had a blast!!! It was so much fun! We went to Canmore, Banff and Fairmont. In Canmore we stayed at a hotel and each room had an upstairs! From Canmore we drove to Fairmont for the whole day just resting in the hot springs. After the long day of driving and sitting in warm water we went back to the hotel and had a nice dinner with my moms friend who came with us we had a great sleep. Sadly my dad didn't come because he had to work. The next day we went to Banff and went to gift shops and candy shops like The Fugery. I got my self a t-shirt with a big picture of a beagle puppy on it.
ReplyDeleteThe next day we went back home and spent time with my family. On Easter morning me and my brother rushed down the stairs still in our pj's. I got down the stairs first so I got a sneek peek of where the candy was. I found so much chocolate. I found Easter eggs filled with mini eggs and sooooo much more! On Monday my best friend ever came over for the day and we had a awesome day with her. We played with make-up and made ourselfs look like zombies! I had the best spring break ever!

That does sound awesome. You have to be careful in Banff/Jasper at Easter however, because those min-eggs you see outside are not likely "chocolate" despite what older brothers/sisters may say... =p

ReplyDeleteSpeaking of Spring Break, On the first two days I stayed at my aunt and uncle's house, and we watched lots of movies. We watched Spider Man 2, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2, Spider Man 3, and we played Lego Rock Band and Super Smash Bros. The next day I went swimming with my friends Natalie and Logan at Clearview Rec Centre. The next day, I went to their house and the next day, they came over to MY house. That's when we partnered with (not really "partnered") Scythe Films and we started making a superhero movie. For more detail, see the trailer. The next day we met the same family at the dentist. The next day we had a pancake breakfast and we went to Red Robin's. On Saturday we were running around like crazy and on Sunday (Easter), we watched the 185th Annual General Conference. The Easter Bunny came. The next day I went to Nicholas's house. I had a good time!

My spring break sort of went the way I planned. Well, I was sick, I was not feeling well, and I was feeling very lazy. I don't know why but this Easter I was feeling very sick (I was also sick on Christmas to!) Well eventually we went outside, but that was just for grocery shopping. Also we went to the school park over spring break! It was very warm out.

Spring Break was bad and good. Five days ago my brothers friend choked me and my face turned purple. The good part was I got a new SCOOTER and I'm going ask my mommy if I can go and I'll beg and beg until I can go.

DeleteMy Spring Break was..............AWESOME! First on Monday and Tuesday I was at Champions Gymnastics for spring break camp. On Wednesday I visited my Grandma and Grandpa with their dog Missy. BUT THURSDAY WAS THE BEST! WE WENT TO GALAXY LAND! We went to Orbit Blast, Space Circle, Swing of the Century, bumper cars and my least favourite: THE ZOMBIE SHOOTER GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSo basically first you are driving one dark and rainy night in a pickup truck, next you get hit by some truck and BOOM a zombie epocolips begins. You're running through this dense forest shooting zombies like crazy. After that you find another pick up truck and jump into it and start driving down a hill smashing into zombies killing them. Then you crash and find this house surrounded by a graveyard and even more zombies. After killing them you enter this house where the zombies are guarding random people. You kill them all. then you find another pickup and go down on this chase finding cars covered in zombies you of the car shoot the zombies off of peoples cars freeing then a zombie jumps on you ripping your head off and you die.
My spring break does not need to be longer. because it is perfect the way it is.
Longer Spring Break means less education which is bad for you, YOU NEED EDUCATION TO LIVE A PROPER LIFE, EDUCATION HELPS YOU GET A JOB, JOBS=MONEY=A HOME, FOOD and CLOTHS. SO STAY IN SCHOOL PEOPLES!
NO I DON'T WANT TO START SCHOOL IN AUGUST because August is so beautiful that I don't want to stay inside all day I want to be camping in Banff, swiming in Vancover and eating dinner outside with my family. SO GET OFF OF YOUR DEVICES, XBOXES AND Wii's PEOPLE.

DeleteMy Spring Break was awesome. What I did in S B, me, my mom, my dad, my sister and my couson Arielle went to Elk Ilsind park. It was soo much fun. We saw 45 bison they were so close to use. I would like Spring Break to be a little longer but school will start in August, and my BIRTHDAY is in AUGUST. So I like it one week.

My spring break was ok. I packed all day because I'm moving. At least I got to play some games like cat and mouse. Spring break could be longer and I want it longer. Why you ask because I need to play video games all day instead of going to school. I'm allergic to school and paper and everything that includes school.

My spring break was fine. But it could of been better, if Spring Break was two weeks and a half like my other school Keheewin (KEE-HE-WIN like "I win,"). We started September 5, and end school in June........I think!?!?!?!?!? ;.(. . On the other hand, the reason why I think Spring Break should be two weeks is because I should have been able to eat more chocolate and sugar and homework reasons.

My spring break was fantastic!! I got $50! Although it could have been longer because I would have liked if we had more time to relax. I had to go to daycare for some of it.
ReplyDeleteI got allot of chocolate for Easter and on Monday 6th I got to see the movie "Home!" It was a really good movie. I got to go to the museum with my daycare and it was fun. Our daycare teacher bought us candy sticks. YUMM!! We saw stuff about the first nations and I got to hear a first nation in a fake telephone stand.
My thoughts on a longer spring break are that it would be nice and I would have more time to relax and do stuff.
I would not be willing to to start in August because I LOVE summer break and I would not be able to go to my camp with me and my mom.

My Spring Break was pretty fun ! We went to an Easter egg hunt ! I love finding eggs. I got forty-nine eggs. We also had a party. It was very awesome, we stayed a little longer than before. I slept at noon and I woke up at 11:00 in the morning.

My Spring break was great! The things I did (which I will describe later) are 1. Have a sleepover at my cousins house because it was her Birthday 2. Lost a tooth 3. Pet a snake 4. Eat 5. Go to my grandparents house 6. Easter! 7. Hang out with family 8. Stay home while parents went to Banff for the day.
ReplyDeleteI would like Spring break to be longer. Well not too long, because then we would be behind in school and have our test WAY earlier and maybe even miss out on some experiments! It would be nice to have one week and maybe a few more days.
I would definitely NOT go to school in August! Reason 1. I usually go on vacation in August. Reason 2. Shorter Summer. Reason 3. ITS SUMMER.
Now I will explain my Spring break. First I went to my cousins house for her Birthday (thats where I lost a tooth and pet a snake). Not much to explain. A few days later I went to my Grandpa Jody and Grandma Chicki. I was really excited! The reason I was so excited was because I hadn't seen them in three years! When we got in the door they offered us popcorn and of course we said yes. Then Grandma Chicki went in the kitchen to make it. Next they said they had a deep Fryer. Had some conversations with us. Ate popcorn. Then they offered us potato wedges, chicken wings, Hawian Punch, ice cream sandwichs and chocolate. Then we started to plan a fishing trip and after a while we left. I don't have enough time to write about Easter so Thanks for reading my comment!

My Spring Break was awesome! I went to Victoria to visit my grandparents. We went swimming three times in one week! I wish that SB was longer though. Then I could of stayed at my Grandma's appartment for longer. It would of been so much fun!
ReplyDeleteMy grandma was going to help me sew a shirt, but she said that it would take too long. Instead I just added some things on. It was still really fun, but it wasn't the same. Also, we could of met my friends in Victoria more. At least we went swimming with them! Even without a longer SB, I still had lots of fun!
I don't think I would of traded starting school in August for more SB. After all, the weather in August is way better than the weather in SB!

I think it was a good Spring Break. I do think it would be a little bit boring to have two weeks for Spring Break then to come to school in August. That is so not cool. I will not be willing to get a longer Spring Break. For what? Just going to school in August. August in the summer.
